    Default Imigration to colonies?

I'm having trouble encouraging emigration to my colonies, I'm playing as France and my home region has a population of about 80 million people and my colonial possessions in the America's have the population of 40 thousand combined. No matter how high I raise my taxes in my home region and even though I exempted the whole of my territory in America from taxes, my colonies just won't grow and at best I get a 0.25 percentage growth from immigration in a province with 4000 people (which means about 20 people come there from my 80 million, overpopulated and extremely highly taxed home region).

Just try to build up farms and build fishing ports. That's the only advice I can give.

Yeah it all seems slow progress as far as colonies are concerned. Just try and get your home provences loyalty as low as you can without dropping under 1.

All you can really do is build the farms/fisheries in the colonies, exempt them from tax, while raising your taxes high and destroying churches/happiness buildings in france. Build extra schools for more unhappiness.

Food shortages seem to be the source of my immigration numbers. If there is no food in the homeland, they have no other choice, right?

Just out of interest, is there really any need to build up your colonies? I've never seen any need for it, besides for better troops.

Yes, this creates greater region wealth, thus adding to tax income. Many colonial holdings can in a short time period become far more profitable than European regions, ie. Mexico, Quebec, Pennsylvania, Boston, almost any Indian possession. Also if you build up a region it gains extra products to export. The nice new units are an added bonus.

Treat your people like dirt and they will immigrate. Make them starve.

Not to be too anal about the language, but the thread title should be "emigration" to the colonies.

What special units do you get for extra population? I just build the highest barracks with the highest admin building.

Does your region/colony open up more building slots the more people move there?

Will your population in new france really go up, if you raise taxes in France? I haven't seen this happen yet but then again i didnt know it was a feature. I have to say i like it tho. Having a larger pop in NA would be nice.
