Hi All,
I have an odd problem where when I click on a fleet on the campaign map the game freezes for anywhere between 4-20 seconds. It is only with fleets that I have this problem.
Has anyone else seen this problem?

this also happens to me. it happens when i select a decently stacked navy or my capital(paris). the game lags for like 10-20 secs. it very annoying.

than just a smile.
I get this one too, very annoying cause I've been spamming Indiamen this entire GC and every two turns I have to click my port to get my Indiamen, wait for lag, move Indiamen to trade area, /repeat x5...
Takes a long time.

yes this is a real pain , I tried however disabling sound which I think made some difference but did not fix the problem but probably worth trying to see if it improves things a bit.
I had exactly the same problem, but now I donīt have this anymore. Why? Now my game ctds when I click on a fleet. But that also is not entirely correct, since I canīt click on a fleet anymore since my savegames are corrupted and the game ctds each time I try to load them. I bet you will experience the same progress.
i had this problem occur on occasion...and it only happened with one specific fleet in portsmouth steam drydock. funny enough, after a couple of turns it just went away
I progressed to the 1780's and have had no CTD's on the campaign map
I have made it up to 1783 in GC and now have a CTD every time I click on a fleet of mine with a full stacked army in the Caribbean.

The reason why there is a ctd or 'lag' is because of your cpu. When you click a naval unit or a port that contains a naval unit, the game calculates the pathing and range of travel. Early game it is not really a problem as there are only brigs/sloops with very short ranges. Our problem arises when the game progresses. One gets first rates and techs up things like copper hulls(which increases campaign map movement). I have tested this myself.
The real, yet impractical solution to this problem would be to either put a sloop in each armada, or spend $$$ to upgrade your cpu.
I hope that clears things up for you guys. cheers![]()
I can't move armies in or out of cities without *BOOM WHITE SCREEN* followed by "Empire: Total War has encountered a problem and needs to close." This happened summer of 1770 with 10 regions left to take in the GC. Worked absolutely flawlessly up until that point.
hmm this issue smells to me like a sound/codec issue, hopefully addressed in patch. However I could be totally wrong!

Yup, it's a calculation issue on CA's part. The game needs to calculate the pathing range of all ships in the fleet. Buying a faster CPU won't solve it. I'm running a C2Q (quadcore for those) at 3.8ghz, having the same issue still. I worked arround it by pretty much reducing naval range and make the +campaign map increase from technologies nearly useless for naval.
I'm guessing the code can use a few runs of optimization for this to go away :S And we all know how long that might take :S
i always get this problem when selecting either a port or a navy. sometimes it takes up to 60 seconds...
Ya, I had this happen to me. Took over all of Europe and was starting on America just waiting for the game to end. I got to 1792 when I was starting to get CTD when selecting certain naval units.
