    Default Period Music Mod v1.3

    Period Music Mod

    Hey everyone!

This is a little something I put together; a mod for classical music lovers.
As most of you are aware of, there are already several classical music mods released on this forum for everyone's enjoyment.
However, all of these include classical music from a wide range of periods. I think I even saw some 20th century music out there.
If you're one of the happy sods who take extreme pleasure in taking further steps towards history, as real as it gets, then this is the music mod for you.

I have here compiled some 50 musical pieces, all of which were originally produced during Empire Total War's time frame; the 18th century (or slightly earlier, but not earlier than the 1690's). To put it shortly, it's period music!
You won't find anything here that the 18th century man would not have been able to recognize.

Moving through the late baroque period and the classical period, including composers such as:
    -Bach
    -Telemann
    -Vivaldi
    -Handel
    -Mozart
    -Haydn
    Among others.

To install, just extract the pack file into your ETW data folder.
You're also going to have to create/modify the user.empire_script.txt file in the
    (for XP) C:\Documents and Settings\YOURUSERNAME\Application Data\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts directory
or (for Vista) in the C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts directory. Within the document, simply add the line:
    mod tuca_music.pack;
Don't forget to save the user.empire_script.txt file in Unicode.

A great thanks to LtChambers for the awe-inspiring Pack File Manager, which allowed me to create this mod, and also to the great geniuses of the age, who created such masterpieces.

    First post and first mod!

    UPDATE - v1.3
    Megaupload
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ivmor8ou

Sendspace (both needed, v1.2 ONLY until v1.3 upload is completed)
    http://www.sendspace.com/file/rufvqr Part 1
    http://www.sendspace.com/file/rhsdk9 Part 2

The new version has been uploaded! It's an expansion of the fields of ETW that which the mod covers.

    It includes:
    - Replaced campaign prebattle music to better fit the period, and thus enhance atmosphere.
    - Replaced battle result music for the same reasons.

NOTE: If you're using a modified version of the factions_tables from patch.pack (for example, if you're using a mod that unlocks all factions), it might interfere with the one included in this mod. If this is the case, you might want to modify it to your liking (while keeping the modifications I've made, which is only the category for each faction), or refrain from downloading this version of the mod. For this reason, I have decided to keep the download link to v1.1.

In future version of this mod, I will mostly adress the culture issue, which forces me to change European factions to categories where they don't really belong. Once LtChambers adds support for the cultures_tables into his Pack File Manager, I reckon this can be done.
I will also attempt to fix the issue with campaign music dissappearing after autoresolving a battle.
Other than that, I will of course address any issues and complaints from the users of this mod.

    MOD ADD-ONS
Below you'll find a list of add-ons I have released for this mod.

-- Non-European campaign music removal mod
Annoyed by the non-European music that keeps turning up in your European campaign? Use this mod to completely remove any non-Euorpean campaign music, thus eliminating the problem! Not recommended if you're planning on playing a non-European faction any time soon, but it's very easy to inactivate the mod.
    Download: http://files.filefront.com/ETW+non+e.../fileinfo.html
Install it as you would the standard mod.

No more mod add-ons for now.

    v1.1 download link below.

Feedback is always appreciated, whether good or bad.

Wow, quite nice. I have to admit, I was a bit put off by some of the musical choices made in other mods. While I will miss having some Dvorak, I think I'll manage.

    Hmm,

This was the only mod that I couldn't make into a mod pack for it to work, have to keep it as a patch_mod_.pack file. A suggestion, if you can maybe make this into a mod.pack file instead, this way when updates happen it shouldn't interfere with it not working till you update it again of course

In the end it would be less work hopefully, but it is just suggestion of course, you can naturally keep it the way it is

    great work once again,

I am completely and utterly useless when it comes to modding.
I really only made this mod because I felt a strong urge to have a historical music selection.
So I'm not really sure what to do, sorry.

Edit: Scratch that, I'm more confident now.

Yeah, since it's just the music, I doubt anything much could happen to it.
Only if CA change the file names of their european campaign music files. I don't find it likely.
I could be missing out on something though.

"Therefore I am not in favour of raising any dogmatic banner. On the contrary, we must try to help the dogmatists to clarify their propositions for themselves. Thus, communism, in particular, is a dogmatic abstraction; in which connection, however, I am not thinking of some imaginary and possible communism, but actually existing communism as taught by Cabet, Dézamy, Weitling, etc. This communism is itself only a special expression of the humanistic principle, an expression which is still infected by its antithesis – the private system. Hence the abolition of private property and communism are by no means identical, and it is not accidental but inevitable that communism has seen other socialist doctrines – such as those of Fourier, Proudhon, etc. – arising to confront it because it is itself only a special, one-sided realisation of the socialist principle."

    ...convert?
    These are all .mp3's.
Just open the pack file in the Pack File Manager and extract them into a folder of choice.

If you can't play .mp3's, then that's a different matter altogether.

The volume is extremely low and I have the music volume all the way up in game. I turn my speakers up pretty loud then get blasted with bass when I hit the next turn button (have a subwoofer attached to speakers).

Is there any way to increase the volume of the music?

EDIT: Also it seems the music doesn't work for Russia? Is there a way I can make it work for Russia?

    Thanks and great job!

I'm about to release a mod pack version any minute now, in which I have also increased the volume.

Odd thing about Russia though. I haven't tried playing with them, but unless they're not in the European group (which logically, they should be ), there shouldn't be any problems.

I'll have to check it out.

Edit: It's true! And the same goes for Poland-Lithuania! I wonder why.
If anyone has any ideas as to why the mod doesn't apply to Russia or P-L, please share them.

Also, for better volume balance. My impression is that the effects volume is overall kind of high in the campaign. One might consider decreasing it slightly.

Thanks for the mod. Looking forward to trying the new revision. So far your music mod seems to "feel right", at least to me compared to others I've tried. Looking forward to more of your releases!

    Keep it up bro...

    Thanks for the feedback.

I was planning on releasing the next version today, but due to several reasons, I won't be able to.
Firstly, my internet connection has been reduced to 57 kbs, which makes uploading on Filefront take over 30 hours, which is 20 hours more than Filefront accepts. Also, due to solving the issue with Russia and Poland-Lithuania, the pack file takes up nearly double the space now.

So, it doesn't appear I'm going to be able to upload it until the weekend, when I'll have access to a much better connection. Sorry, guys.

Probably quicker to mail the cd to me by post then. ;-)
I can then upload it. Only kidding.

Btw, what ISP are you using?

    Thanks for your effort.

Is there any support for "Eastern" music in this mod? I know contemporary composers that we know of were mainly Western-European and Russian, but I love any mods that improve upon the Eastern factions because CA usually drops the ball with those guys.

Zaphod: this mod only replaces the European music... so far.

Well, I have a few hundred GBs of classical music, but less than a few MBs of eastern music. And even if I had a lot of eastern music, I'm not expert enough to know which period in history it's from, so don't be expecting it to come from me in the next few decades, sorry.
