usiing large funds is lame
I prefer it, it gives larger armies, more fun to watch the replay.
yes bad do not give realistic armies
like armies full of guards or elite light infantry insane
Austria 10k
4 Jaegers
5 Line
3 Light Dragoons
1 Gen Bodyguard
1 Howitzer
1 Grenzer or Howitzer
Marathas 10 K early era
1 general
3 hindu swordsmen
6 sikh musketeers
4 lancers
Marathas 10k: 20 Hindu Swordsmen.
Austria 14k, late: 7 Grenzers, 5 guards, 5 Uhlans.
Depends on tactics, I guess.
Rush before the enemy can set up a strong position?
Marathas:
3 elephants (1 of which is general)
12 Sikh-Hindu Swordsmen
5 Sikh-Hindu Musketeers
Infantry-Based (usually in battles with reserves and the like, so 3vs3-4vs4)
Austria
3 Jaegers (the elite ones that is, not the 400 gold ones)
3 Grenziers
6 Line Infantry
1 Rocket
1 Mortar
1 General
2 Guards
etc etc
Also, a couple "FOR TEH LULZ" tactics (ones that usually don't work, but look cool and help allies in large battles):
-Pick Poland, make an army entirely of Cavalry (a mix of Winged Hussars and Dragoons), and charge heroically (while your Dragoons go on foot and proceed to blast the enemy)
-Pick Austria, make an army entirely of Grenziers and Jaegers, and watch as the enemy wanders around aimlessly trying to find you
-Pick the Marathas (though if you somehow unlock minors, Cherokee works better), make an army entirely of swordsmen, and recreate ZULU ! by charging straight at the Europeans (Ideally, upgrade them so they don't immediately run away, and have two units of swords target one unit of line infantry). Ironically enough, if done right, this can actually win a battle.
-Pick any nation with good line infantry (So France, Prussia, or Great Britain) and make an army entirely out of line infantry. Line your army up in a straight line a little ways beyond the enemy's range, and play from there (if they have riflemen or something, charge)
-Make an army that has about 10 rockets or something backed by a bunch of cavalry. Observe the carnage. If the enemy attacks the rockets, use the cavalry to fight back, and charge every once in a while for dramatic effect.
Everything the State says is a lie, everything it has is stolen.
State is the name of coldest of all the cold monsters. Coldly it lies; and this slips from its mouth: "I, the state, am the people"
I've been having some alright success playing with this setup. 95% of the time I take the initiative and attack so this is an offensive-minded selection:
Era: Early,
Battle Size: Medium
Country: Sweden
1 General
2 Dragoons
2 Light Cav
~6 Line Infantry
Misc. Artillery/skill points
I deploy them in this kind of a setup:
Usually there's a pair of mobile artillery in there also, either foot, horse, or mortars. The line infantry engage the main enemy force while I use the Cav/Dragoons as a mobile pair on the enemy flanks or rear. The cav screen for the dragoons.
This setup has proven to be able to take on a diverse number of armies. I've crushed mortar/riflemen spammers, armies focused on line infantry, and other cavalry heavy forces. This isn't some uber-army, but it's a good "jack of all trades" formation. If you dont' know what your enemy is picking, this army gives you lots of options of attack.

Well here is mine : Late period, medium fund, Sweden
1*general body guard
3*guards
2*line infantry
2*grenadier
2*light dragoons with 4xp
1*light dragoon with 2xp
And I deploy in a 3 rank deep line with the grenadiers and bodyguard on the back, the 4xp dragoons on the right and I hide the 2 xp dragoon as far left as possible.
The idea is to force the ennemy to engage the 2 dragoons on the right so I rush em to his left flank while I advance my line towards him. And as soon as the ennemy starts reacting an giving lots of orders to his troop, I rush my leftmost dragoon behind his line to pick the most threatening regiment and backcharge it.
The grenadiers will go though the line to send the ennemy elite infantery on orbit.
The trick is that swedish light dragoon comes by the hundred and with 4 xp it is a massive force, their charge is not the most efficient but when the ennemy sees em on his flank he will usually send his cavalery to beat em.
The dragoon will usualy win.
As for now my most crushing defeat were against a brittish balanced army whith 24pounder, the artillery killed lots of my men and the other player was smart and fast enough to protect his flanck with enough forces while engaging my grenadier in melee.
I also lost big time against an austrian army with lots of grenzer and just enouth guard to piss the hell out of me, he was deployed in mutiple concentric circle in a deep forest, so my cav was pretty mutch useless.
Late Era, Large Funds, Austria
I usually go with:
1 General
4 Houshold cavalry
6 Guards
4 Jaegers
2 Howitzers
1 Light Dragoons
I always change my armies but many of them are smiliar to the following ones.
Austria, Late, 10k
1 Generals Bodyguard
2 Houshold Cavalry
2 Guards
1-2 Howitzer
6-8 Line Infantery
4-6 Jäger
2-4 Grenzer
0-2 Light Dragoons
Austria, Late, 14k
1 Generals Bodyguard
2 Houshold Cavalry
0-2 Guards
3-6 Line Infantery
2-4 Jäger
0-2 Grenzer or Greandiers
1-2 Howitzers
US, late, 10k
1 Generals Bodyguard
2 Houshold Cavalry
0-1 Light Dragoons
1-2 Howitzers
2-4 Line Infantery
2-6 Minute Men
2-4 Long Rifle Men
0-1 Guards
What's up with the "0-4" thing? That just makes it confusing and uh.. quite pointless. Same as saying "well, I have 0-10 line infantry, 0-10 jägers, 0-10 cavalry, 0-10 artillery and 0-10 general's bodyguard, hope that helped!"
Ohhhh about 8 mortars, say 5 skirmishers and the rest guards, sounds perfect.
I am joking, seriously.
I myself prefer early battles so as to prevent guard and riflemen spam, but it really does depend on which faction I play as. Since I mostly play United Provinces Il list what I prefer there.
Anywhere between 5-6 units of line inf, 4 light infantry, 2 artillery pieces, and 2-4 units of cavalry.
My default army is the french with 6 line infantry, 2 long range skirmishers, 3 calvary and one general. No arti.
My current favourite late/large builds with Austria:
general
4x line inf
3x guards
3x grenzers
3x windbuchse jeagers
2x mortars
2x household cav
or
general
5x line inf
2x guards
3x grenzers
3x w jaegers
2x mortars
3x carabineers
both cost exactly 14K (i'm a bit anal like that) and serve me pretty well against most armies.
I usually play Late-Med and my usual army works with most factions
2 Household Cav (or equivalent)
2 Guards (Coldstream if British)
4 Line Infantry
4 Skirmishers
0 Artillery
Extra money is spent on a Gen's Bodyguard or sometimes a grenadier or upgrades.
12 eight inch mortars, 7 Household cavalry, General's Bodyguard.
