Default India, Pakistan report firing on Kashmir frontier

    http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2009/...r-Shooting.php
SRINAGAR, India: Indian troops were fired upon across the heavily fortified frontier in the Himalayan region of Kashmir, injuring a soldier, army officials said Saturday, even as Pakistan blamed Indian army soldiers for the shooting.
Brig. Gopala Krishnan Murali, a senior Indian army officer in India's Jammu-Kashmir state, would not say whether suspected Islamic rebels or Pakistani soldiers initiated Friday's firing, but said that a formal complaint had been lodged with Pakistan.
Pakistan's army, meanwhile, said it was Indian troops who "resorted to unprovoked firing." An army statement said that a protest had been filed "for cease-fire violation."
Not good, could we soon see another Kashmir war?

What's the armor ratio between the armies, dear Guderian?

About 2:1 in India's favour. Both sides rely heavily on Soviet armour. So both know the other's weakness. It would be a good fight. But i remember the French had more tanks than us in '39 and theirs were heavier. It didnt stop us pissing in the Gulf of Calais a few weeks later. It would come down to the skill of the Batallion commanders.

Can we please stay on topic. This thread is about armoured manouvres. Thanks.

using history as a judge, I think India has the advantage in armored warfare. Pakistan always get's their ass kicked when they try to take on Indian armor.

The most amusing thing is watching the Pakistanis and Indians buy various tanks when trying to outstrip each other.

First India will buy T-80s from Russia. Then Pakistan will get T-84s. Then India gets T-85s in response, which drives Pakistan to get T-90s, and so on.

The Russians have to be laughing all the way to the bank at the little arms race, especially when all of these tanks are really just the same thing slightly modified to sucker nations into buying them.

I heard that in the 1971 war we used T-55 tanks and the Pakistanis used the Chinese copy, the Type 59 and supposedly this was confusing for both sides' Tank Corps .

At least we still beat them .

Maybe it was Kashmiri rebels trying to provoke a war hoping it could force India to do what they want.

Perhaps, I wonder who really did shoot first though. Was it the Indians or Pakistanis?

As I said could have been Kashmiri rebels firing both ways.

Wouldn't be the first time a rebel group tried to provoke a war between two nations.

But the article says an Indian Soldier was injured.
Indian troops were fired upon across the heavily fortified frontier in the Himalayan region of Kashmir, injuring a soldier, army officials said Saturday, even as Pakistan blamed Indian army soldiers for the shooting.

Well just a word of note but the last time that India and Pakistan went to war over Kashmir, it was followed by an army coup d'etat which overthrew the civilian government of Pakistan.

Pakistan wants to liberate Kashmir from Indian "occupation" even though the Pakistani govt really have mismanaged their country over the past 60 years.
