Ships, guns and facts. Is this right?

I thought that historically, a 38-gun ship and a total of 38 guns on board, and that a 74-gun ship and a total of 74 guns on board. And so on.

But in battle, my ships have 38 guns on each side, or 74 guns on each side. Isn't that double of what really was?

Or am I missing something here? I have read what I could find at the moment on the net and it seems all numbers talked about are really the total amount of guns and not on each side.

74 Gun ship means the ship has a total armament of 74 guns no matter where they are placed. This means 37 on each side for the game.

ships could have more guns than their nominal rate - carronades for instance wouldnt be counted or chase guns. The Victory is a 1st rate 100 gun ship but she actually has 104...

Ok, that is what I suspected too. Then all the ships guns in this game are wrong. Because they have their stated amount on each side of the ship. HMS Victory for example has over 100 guns on each side in this game....

It doesn't it has about 50 guns on each side. In battle when using the broadside buttons, you can mouse over them to see the total number of guns on each side. Each ships guns are divided between both broadsides and on most ships a few stern/bow chasrers. No ship has it's full number fo guns on both broadsides.

I guess I must have been more tired than ever yesterday. Playing 12 hours straight.... For sure I thought I saw this. I guess I will cut my sessions shorter, and no Red Bull this time
