Default Egypt - Tactics and Strategies

So I've been playing as Egypt for a bit. Was a big fan of England but decided to try out a faction with some good horse archers. After looking at the rosters I decided between Egypt or the Turks as they both have good horse archers with good armor, both have naffatun (good for sieges and whatnot) and both also have somewhat above average musket-wielding soldiers. I eventually decide don Egypt as I like their position on the map. just wondering, what are some good tactics/strategies as Egypt? Been using lots of mamluks but have recently decided to add in some Desert Cavalry (javelin throwers) as they would be better against armoured units. Any ideas? Both on the campaign map and battle map. Recently sent a migration force (sorta) to England to capture them in preparation for the World is Round event. Also, this is in vanilla.

As much as I love heavy cavalry and the Middle East (I love fighting there, no idea why), I -hated- playing as Egypt as they rely WAY too heavily on heavy cavalry, they are not all-round at ALL... Which annoyed me.
Anyways, a good tactic with the Egyptians, big armies and hit and run, that's the best tactic I can give you... No details because I played with them for a short duration, that's mostly what I remember from what did in my campaign.

Your tactic would depend on who you are fighting. I've found for Egypt that to use Saracen militia in schiltrom formation and some heavy infantry combined with naffatun, horse archers and Heavy cavalry can beat a pretty balanced Antioch army.

Egypt doesn't rely so much on heavy cavalry. You just haven't played them enough. They have good ranged cavalry, tolerable heavy infantry(Ex. Dismounted Arab cavalry), and good light infantry. They just require a different strategy to the European style of fighting.

Personally I prefer either siege battles, were I can ajust to their attacks alot easier than the open battlefield, or playing on the defensive with a hit and run technique and using a good amount of horse archers. And you do need rather large armies for Egypt since their heavy infantry IS inferior to European countries. Hope this helps, however, I've never played as Egypt in the GC I mostly play the Crusades campaign.

I though the Mamaluks were heavy cavalry and missile? Am I in error? I know they lose their punch later and I end up using them only as missile later.

There are different versions of mamluks. There are Mamluks, who are heavy cavalry. There are Mamluk archers, who are horse archers. And there are Royal Mamluks, who can only be gotten in a citadel they are heavy cavalry who look like generals bodyguard.

For late period I use Kasseki or whatever they're called. They can be gotten same as Royal Mamluks but they have better armor and two more defense.
