Default The low down with Sicily

Since my mum's family came from Benevento, near Naples, I thought I'd be patriotic and play as the Sicilians. It's been a fun game, and I own lands in North Africa, Greece and, of course, Italy. But now, later in the game, I'm beginning to notice major differences between my roster and that of other factions.
To begin with most factions sent units of militia with a few professional units, but not they're mostly a mix of heavy cavalry and swordsmen/spearmen in the armies. All I have to offer are armoured sergeants as the backbone of my army, and while I include dimounted Hospitallers they're far too expensive compared to the Regular Swordsmen other factions have available, and since Norman Knights cost even more than Hospitallers I don't bother with them. Can this be fixed somehow? Cheers

Don't you think the game would be awfully bland if all factions had the same roster? Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, something you should take into account when choosing your factions and strategies.

Quite the opposite in this case to be honest- feels fairly bland using almost nothing but armoured sergeants in my armies due to the mentioned cost of Normans. I'm not saying that I want the exact same roster as other factions, it's just some form of sword armed infantry besides the elites would freshen things up a bit.
No rant, just putting my thoughts out there

I think that the Sicilian faction just reflects reality, for better or for worse. You only have a few elite units, the Muslim archers being the other one, and you can acquire them rather early. Sicily wasn't really a viable faction by the late medieval age/Renaissance, thanks in large part to Iberian and French intervention in the Mediterranean. It's a powerful early faction whose advantages shrink with time.
