Default Any problems with high end comps? i7 920s?

I am VERY sorry if this is in the wrong section, but have people been having problems with high end computers, such as i7 920s, gtx 295, vista 64? I am going to buy one of these comps soon, in large part bc of this game. I've heard a few reports of problems so just wanted to make sure. please be specific about what products are causing problems and will patches fix this later?

also does this graphics engine make use of dx10, or will it in a LATER expansion? will the mods actually improve the graphics or just make the uniforms look a bit nicer? thanks

    I have an i7 920 at 3,1gig
    with 2 9800gtx
    6gb ocz platinum at 1550mhz
    asus p6t deluxe motherboard
    Asus xonar d2 audio
(seems like its about the basic layout for any i7 owners)

I have LOTS of problems, you have to save before you start a battle and its always like a flipping a coin if you will make it to the end of a battle without a crash. I think that about 75 percent of large scale battles dont last thil the end

He's likely having the problem because of his SLI'd 9800s.

Go ahead and buy the game, even if it doesn't work now, it will work later and be fine. Plus, many people have little to no issues anyway.

Id like to rectify that, first lets be clear, sli is a marketing trick I somehow fell to, ill never do it again.
But I've heard of games lagging due to sli, I've had games that performed worse with sli on initially. Downloading the nhancer works very well too. But never ever ever have I heard of a game that crashed due to sli. If this is not true please rectify

Sli doesnt change any codes it is a way of dividing workload, it doesnt alter a game code or something, if I have more crashes than others it could be a lot of things but not sli.

I overclocked the 920 to 3,1 gig and its stable as hell, no probs whatsoever. That might be the issue for empie tough. Another problem might be that this rigs, and the rigs of the peepz around are just to nasa to be mainstream and as such do not have support or some.

Last option could be memory timings in cohesion with a not officially supported speed (1550mhz)

edit: Sli is not even on

Only the lord of speed knows.

I bought an i7 especcialy for this game, I heard it would be optimized for quad cores and i7... The intro movie is a bloody LIE, it does not run great on an i7. IT SUCKS on an i7

You spend 1500 euro for a bloody nasa machine only to find out the lord of cpu's doesnt take kindly to your appetite for speed and throws you back in the gutter with the rest of the sluggers.

No problems with high end rigs. Just problems with this buggy beta software.

Soon my computer will arrive (see sig for specs) and I already have Empire. If it doesn't work, I'll just go play other games till Empire is fully patched and working.

Just buy the game and look how it goes.

I have a pc like the one you intent on getting I have very little issues, but don;t get your hopes up about the performance.

It runs okay, however on my machine it should run awesome and then some.

I know I can't compare this game to games like Farcry 2 and Crysis but I just find it a bummer that I can turn those games up to max on high resolution and have a very steady, high framerate but being forced to turn some options off in ETW to keep large battles playable.

I just feel that ETW doesn't run as wella s it should on any machine. I think it's poorly optimized.

The engine does not use DX10. There's no word on whether it will in future, however I suspect not.

    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Extreme CPU X9770 @ 3.20GHz (4 CPUs), ~4.0GHz
    8190MB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280
    Display Memory: 3056 MB
    Dedicated Memory: 1010 MB
    Shared Memory: 2046 MB
    Current Mode: 1920 x 1200 (32 bit) (60Hz)
    Monitor: Dell 2709W(Digital)
    Windows Vista™ Ultimate (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.080917-1612)

I updated to 182.08 and found that I could fight battles OK but the start of a campaign (the introduction with the zoom around the map) would freeze my PC. I used an older driver 181.22 and this worked OK but I was running out of virtual memory. I used the stickied fix and the game was running OK. I then installed the 182.06 drivers and I have the same problem with the 182.08.

Maybe I will not run my PC in SLI mode or just put the game 'back in the box' until a patch or two time. There's plenty of working mods out there to keep the RTW and M2:TW veterans happy.

so will they definitely fix these problems in a patch? i've thought i will hold off buying until a couple months from now for this reason, also better mods and patches
it's too freakin bad there aren't more games similar to ETW that could compete and have better graphics, AI, more interesting historical period, whatever i feel that there are VERY few games i can play as a historical war enthusiast who happens to want top knotch graphics! i wonder if it's all going the way of consoles in a few years anyway, sigh

My rig is i7 920 Radeon 4850 3 gb ram and I run the game fairly well, games maxed on battlefield- I DO sometimes get lag, especially with weather. the turns go by pretty slow...

All I can say is, if you dont gotta DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON AN i7!!! Its an AMAZING processor and is the best, but E:TW does not make use of this amazing processor, although I do find the only time I get lag on battle maps is do to my GPU, which is somewhat lacking..

with windows 7 and my quad core here i run the game with all maxed settings. only time i run into a problem is if it snows during a battle. then it lags like hell all of a sudden.

Oh yes, my gaming rig with i7, GTX 285 OC'd and Vista x64 performs VERY BAD. 10-15 fps with 2 full stacks armies with everything maxed.

my rig listed in my Sig. It runs the game like crap. I get arout 10-15 FPS and it is crashing alot or just locking up. I use 181.22 drivers. Just need the path when it is out I hope they do fix things. this weekend I will be updateing to the ATI 4870 1 Gig. I hope that helps the FPS issue and atleast cleans it up a little till the patch.

You might as well upgrade to 64-bit Vista while you're at it. 32-bit only recognizes 4 GB of ram, and that includes the ram in your video card.
