    Default iTunes OCD

I believe I have this most serious of illnesses, allow me to explain.

Usually I’m fairly disorganised person, I’m really not bothered which shoe I put on first, what colour M&M’s I eat or what order the books on my shelves are.

However this all changes when it comes to iTunes. I find myself compelled to have the correct album artwork for each album/song on my iTunes. All the titles have to be properly capitalised, and the genres must be correct. I can’t stand it if I have missed adding album artwork to a song; it bugs me until I do it. I hate it when I have an “untitled track” or if I upload a CD and forget to add the details, so much so I don’t like listening to the songs in question on my iPod until it has been fixed; it just niggles at me too much.

So is anyone else like this? Normal, disorganised people by day, but on iTunes suffering from severe Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

I have the same thing! At one point a few years ago, I went through every track I had and added the correct release date and album. For example, I had The Cure's Greatest Hits, so I took every track and placed each one back into it's original album with the correct release date.

Don't get me started on the album artwork. It drives me mad when iTunes says it can't find the correct album artwork even though the album is clearly available in the iTunes Store. Recently, iTunes decided to crash on me and randomly delete lots of album artwork. I then had to go through and re-do it all, only for iTunes to appoint incorrect artwork. I try to find artwork for Jimmy Eat World albums, only for iTunes to appoint artwork for Jimmy Navel albums.

I also have the same problem. I have to have all the artwork, the exact song and album titles, band names, year, genre.
It bugs the hell out of me if I don't.

Sounds more narcissistic than obsessive compulsive to me since you would be unlikely to forget to add the details in the latter case. The i-pod as an organic part of your life to the extent that it affects your self-image and that's why you want it to look proper. That's my dime-store psychoanalysis.

yeah, if I ever by a compilation album I have to find the original album and place the song in that album.

You're saying that I feel unable to make my self reach the level's I wish to, so instead of improving myself I try and perfect something else important to me?

I've got the same problem: paperwork, room, material, fridge,... everything is an unorganized mess.

Yet every few weeks I clean my entire PC, make sure all music-files have proper names with capitalization, organized neatly by genre, name, artist,..and correct artwork shown.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...
