Default Complete n00b requires SS guidance

Hi guys, thanks in advance for your patience. I've played all the TW series but never tried any MODs, always played vanilla. But while I'm waiting for CA to get E:TW working as intended I thought I'd go back to M2TW and try some of the MODs i've read about.

So, anyway, here's the score. I've got Kingdoms installed, fully patched and have installed the Retrofit MOD along with the Grand Unit addon. Obviously I'm here in this section as I want to play SS, so what I want to know is, are the above installations ok for me to go ahead and DL SS and install -> play?

Also, I've been looking at the XAI MOD, is this compatible with SS?

Finally, is/are there any other addons/MODs that are recommended to use with SS that I haven't come across yet?

Again, thanks in advance for your patience, I'm sure this kind of thing has been asked before, but I am a total A1 n00b to all this, so many thanks

As long as you have Kingdoms, you're ready to install SS.

As for recommended sub-mods, this is where SS really shines, as you can pick and choose, to give you exactly the experience you want.

You should have a look at the unofficial 6.2 patch. I don't play with it, but the majority of users here like it.

Crimson Tide is a great add-on, making soldiers bloodier, and dirty when fighting.

If you chose not to use 6.2, then I'd suggest getting one of the faction enhancing mods. Basileia ton Romaion, Knights Templars or Battle for the Baltic. Note that these are not compatible, allthough the Knights Templar have made a patch for using both BftB and KT. Check the thread for more info.

Regading the XAI, there shouldn't be a problem using that, as far as I know.

6.2 isn't unofficial. It is the official patch.

But it's compiled by Gracul, not made by King Kong?

If it's official, then it should be on the front page, not in the Sub-mods, like all other unofficial mods are.

Does that mean that if/when KK starts working on 7.0, will he use his own 6.1, or Gracul's 6.2 as the base he starts from?

If not 6.2, then it's not official in my eyes.

I'm not taking anything away from the great work Gracul has done, but as I see it, if it's not made by King Kong, or specifically sanctioned by King Kong, then I don't see how you could call it official.

Official SS, means that's the way King Kong intended it to be played. The submods are optional for each players likes and wishes.

It's made by Gracul with KK's blessing. If it wasn't, I wouldn't be calling it official.

Xeryx's BAI is not currently being used officially with SS.
You can, of course try it out, but Xeryx would want to do an official version of his BAI to work with SS properly.
Understandably he doesn't want mods to incorporate his BAI unless he can fine-tune it to work at its best.

For those new here or don't like reading every page. Does this answer questions about 6.2 being official?
