alright
i got this game the day it came out and i love it
i love all total war games
im not going to lie
i invest probably about 4-5 hours a day of my time into ETW
i have had 3 serious campaigns, one as the Inuit Nations which i ended after 120 turns because of their lack of technology
the second campaign i played as the United Provinces, 40-50 turns, took over all of India and western europe, and unlocked all military technology. Heres where the problems start. it got to the point where everytime i would end a turn and the game would either freeze on Great Britain or just CTD.
so i started a new campaign as Great Britain so it wouldnt freeze on their turn. im currently at turns 50-60. All of britannia (obviously), North America, and Mexico are under my control. Pirates blockaded a port of mine sometime prior to this and everytime id click on a port, the game would crash. i ignored the problem at first, since i was in america i just walked everywhere. But now I am stuck. I planned on taking over america, then india, then europe, and now i cant do anything because the ports dont work. I am basically stuck without jackshit to do and i really dont feel like starting ANOTHER campaign mainly because i dont feel like having to wait so long for these stupid europians to realize that if they move over a little bit the whole platoon can fire.
I have seen posts discussing both the united proivnces problem and the port problem with no fixes anywhere. What is most interesting to me is that the Inuit Campaign, a faction your arent supposed to play as in the first place, is the one that had the fewest crashes. I have also noticed that depending on where you are in the campaign, the game runs smoother. Based on all this information i have come to a conclusion: (and i may be wrong) It appears that the ability to block trade routes and the AI's attempt to do it is slowing the games performance down to the point where just transitioning to a navy causes the game to crash. It doesnt do it at the beginning of campaigns because there arent as many AI fleets out on the water yet. Im sure all of you have seen trade routes that are just lined up with fleets raiding them, especially around the Gibralter area. I have not needed to block an enemies trade route yet but im pretty sure one fleet would do the job as opposed to the seemingly endless AI fleets scattered throughout raiding the same line.
im not an expert on this kind of thing so if im wrong then tell me
id just like to know if anyone else feels the same way (or diff)
