Default WW1 Flight Sim, anyone know of any?

Hi all. I'd love a remake of Knights of the Sky, but as far as I know, there are no decent WW1 sims around, not ones that have been released recently at least. Can anyone help me out? I mean actual games, not mods.

There used to be a Red Baron game but the 3D version was utter rubbish. The original is DOS gaming, but it was awesome for the time, not much after that unfortunately..... most of the effort is ported into WWII clones

God, the original Red Baron was so goooooood.

I think they made a WWI mod for BF1942 or BF2.

Did you play the original Knights of the Sky way back when? I had it on the Amiga (a long, long time ago, I know ) and an up to date version with today's great technology would be absolutely amazing!

Edit: Guys, I've just found these videos claiming to be 'Knights of the Sky Demo' and it ain't the original version, either. Any of you know if this game is going to come out at any point? I was hoping Storm of War - Battle of Britain would be with us by now, but that's done a disappearing act. I'd love a new BoB game as much as a WW1 game. I didn't enjoy BoB2 Wings of Victory too much, as it didn't have a proper 'pilot career' mode, where dead meant dead and you couldn't just hop into another plane from the Ops Room map.

Apparently, this new KOTS is also known as 'Rise of Flight:

    And check this out:

    BOOOOOOOM!

Edit: Just done a bit of research and it looks like this one has run into trouble some time ago. Hopefully it'll still come out at some point...

There's a few WW1 flight sims out at the moment:

    First Eagles

    http://www.thirdwire.com/project_wwi_combo.htm

It's by Third Wire Productions, who are made up of ex-programmers from Microprose and Jane's Combat Simulations. If you are a fan of flight sims you will probably be interested to hear the lead programmer was a key member of the team that made European Air War back in the 90's. I don't have this one myself as it doesn't run on Vista

    Next up:

Over Flanders Fields Phase 3 - Between Heaven and Hell

    http://www.overflandersfields.com/

This is a total conversion mod for Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 3. The current (third and ultimate) version is called "Between Heaven and Hell" and is a truly fantastic WW1 sim, being literally years in the making. The only problem is it can be a little expensive, requiring you have a copy of CFS3, and then purchasing Over Flanders Fields.

Finally, here's one that is currently in development and looks very good...

Thanks. I saw that First Eagles got a lousy review in PC Gamer, but they're not always right. Maybe I can find a demo somewhere. Does that one have a proper dynamic campaign and battles vs enemy aces; has anyone here got it? I loved the feature in KOTS that let you challenge an enemy ace...

Don't take any notice of flight sim reviews in the general gaming media. The reviewers aren't usually enthusiasts of the genre, and don't really know what to look for, or indeed what to appreciate!

If you want some opinions from a more qualified group of people you could do a lot worse than ask at a site such as www.simhq.com

It is full of fans of the genre and you are almost certain to find someone there who has tried it.

Is that based on the film? Haven't seen it myself, but no matter how good the film is, my experience is games based on films are either too short, or crap, or both. Quite often, both!

    Thanks for your help though.
