Default Fort can be built inside enemy region

Playing as Louisiana grand campaign, and was having a touch of difficulty with the thousands upon thousands of natives when trying to expand north, after conquering South America

After various expeditionary forces were annihilated by the fierce tribes repeated lancer charges and warrior charges, despite the brave Louisianan artillery slaughtering their ranks from afar, and the steadfast colonial line troops exacting a heavy toll from in close, my General decided to try and build a fort close to the native tribal city.

    And it worked.

Upon completion of the wooden fort, the natives once again charged my army, thinking to repeat the previous victories they had won.

When they came close to the walls of the fort, lethal cannon fire spread carnage through their ranks, and well aimed musket fire sent many hundreds of natives to a messy death. They kept pressing the attack using ropes to reach the walls of the fort, and were met by hard cold steel bayonets. They couldn't stomach this for long, and retreated in total rout - with my General in hot pursuit, his bodyguard wreaking havoc among the fleeing natives with their heavy sabers.

After this long battle, the general replenished his troops in the fort - and then later that same year the natives attacked again! Once more they were slaughtered, and this kept repeating for ten long years of brutal warfare.

By the end of this time, the entire army of colonial line troops were very well experienced and battle hardened veterans. Also ten units of colonial dragoons, who were on a rotational basis to lend support at the fort. They took the battle to the homes and family of the natives, and slaughtered them mercilessly, soon after taking their lands as a reward.

The dragoons returned home to ensure the commoners were behaving themselves, and they were extremely proficient at doing so after their war experience - even when the populace was being taxed brutally.

I really enjoyed my campaign as Louisiana, but I experienced a Freeze on France's turn after a few years (between 1705-07). This happened even if I declared my independence (declared war) from France on turn 1. I don't mean to get off topic, but how did you get past the freeze of death?

It's because the AI faction is 'given' your lands. I've not yet seen a way to avoid it

Actually I just found a mod in which the modder has figured out a way to disable the absorption of the colonial factions by the mother country if you are playing one of the Colonial factions.... Also he has gotten rid of the emerging factions from the initial faction choice (thus avoiding CTD's) and has added a "late era" 1783 all-faction campaign as well. The whole thing looks pretty promising.

I actually used this, but on a saved game that had already frozen on turn 7

When i applied the new files it still froze - so i declared war on france in the saved game, then made peace and all was fine from then on (could have just restarted I suppose, but was going really well on vh/vh and didn't really want to)

Louisiana is a great campaign - you get all the tech of a major nation, access right off the bat to all the new spain colonies (cuba/hispaniaola/mexico and the south american colonies), can take the pirates out within the first 10 years, and can expand through the natives without interupting your trade with the major nations

Maratha trade alone is earning close to 7k a turn by 1725 - those indians sure love sugar, tobacco, and cotton

Nice story Glad you found a way to beat them.

I like it, you can't improve it beyond a wooden fort I don't think. You might be able to make it into an artillery fort but Im certain you cant build a star fort in enemy territory. Good feature.
