After various expeditionary forces were annihilated by the fierce tribes repeated lancer charges and warrior charges, despite the brave Louisianan artillery slaughtering their ranks from afar, and the steadfast colonial line troops exacting a heavy toll from in close, my General decided to try and build a fort close to the native tribal city.
And it worked.
Upon completion of the wooden fort, the natives once again charged my army, thinking to repeat the previous victories they had won.
When they came close to the walls of the fort, lethal cannon fire spread carnage through their ranks, and well aimed musket fire sent many hundreds of natives to a messy death. They kept pressing the attack using ropes to reach the walls of the fort, and were met by hard cold steel bayonets. They couldn't stomach this for long, and retreated in total rout - with my General in hot pursuit, his bodyguard wreaking havoc among the fleeing natives with their heavy sabers.
After this long battle, the general replenished his troops in the fort - and then later that same year the natives attacked again! Once more they were slaughtered, and this kept repeating for ten long years of brutal warfare.
By the end of this time, the entire army of colonial line troops were very well experienced and battle hardened veterans. Also ten units of colonial dragoons, who were on a rotational basis to lend support at the fort. They took the battle to the homes and family of the natives, and slaughtered them mercilessly, soon after taking their lands as a reward.
The dragoons returned home to ensure the commoners were behaving themselves, and they were extremely proficient at doing so after their war experience - even when the populace was being taxed brutally.
