    Default Making officer units use ranged weapons

    So apparently every unit has to have an officer person. This looked pretty dumb with the American Long Rifle Men, and I was trying to get the unit size down to one to make him an elite sniper. Now that I think about, it makes sense to have sniper squads of 2, but I'd still like to see if it's possible to have just a single ranged soldier.

    I managed to add a new officer type (annoyingly, officers, drummers, standard bearers, admirals, etc. are stored in the "battles_personalities" table) and gave it the same model euro_long_riflemen. This worked as I expected. I changed the behavior type to man_rifle which is the same type as the actual americas_long_riflemen unit in the unit_stats_land table. But when I load it up my frontiersman runs around locked in melee mode (without a sword or a bayonet, sigh...). Can anybody think of a way around this? Are there any unit types whose officers use ranged weapons?

    I've seen the officers of most infantry formations using a pistol. I even saw one down one chap of another regiment...

    they don't load their guns, but yes i have seen an officer aim his pistol and hit a guy on a horse.

    i hope someone fiddle with the animation so you see him for like 6 seconds fiddling with the gun ect, then putting it away.

    I'm not sure if it may help, as i'm new to modding Empire;

    I modded a certain hussar unit, to match it's description, and they now fire carbines and skirmish just as a light dragoon would --their officers do fire their pistols everytime the unit fires their carbines.

    As weapons seem to be dynamic now, perhaps you could find where it lists what weapon the officers use by default, as you can with other units, and change this.

    I already tried changing it to the same warscape theme as the normal rifleman in unit_stats_land: I've already modded that to be x_screw_breech (since it reloads faster).
