    Default Losses after battle

I just had a battle vs some native american.

After the enemy routed I had about the half of my army left. I run some of his retreating units with my kavallerie (20 men) down and quit the battle.

According to the post battle screen I lost nearly all of my units (700) and from my kavallerie survived only 5 men.

So what is the reason for this post battle losses? (By the way: I had a surgeon in my army)

    did you quit with escape?

edit: when you do "quit the battle" you have losses. To flee "safe" you have to have all of your units out of the map. Even if you won.

THat's not true. When you win the battle, if it's already given you the option to quit and you continue, you don't have to flee you can just quit. I've never had this problem when I do it that way.

So even if I win the battle i must not quit it, or I will extra losses.

I thought the surgeon is bugged, but this is even worse.

It has always been the same for TW games. You must wait for the message to end or continue battle so that the computer doesn't auto-resolve.

Well it actually is sort of bugged. When you get the "end battle" and "continue" options, the end battle works ok. However, the "continue" option is somewhat weird. In that, if you run down some routers, and for some reason want to quit, you can't. If you do you'll magically lose a lot of men even though you've already won. To avoid that you have to wait until every single enemy soldier has slowly limped off the map (or until you've killed them all), so the game ends by itself.

This is exactly what happened to me. I was fighting against 2 or 3 units of militia with a full stack. Only used my cannons and got no losses. I accidentally clicked continue and then quit, and I had lost almost 400 of my men. I was so annoyed that I quit and redid the battle.

So why i got some extra losses?

I received the win message, but continued to chase the enemy.
After that I quit the battle.

Before I quit my kavallerie had far more units and in the post battle screens suddenly only 5.

edit: Thx blank, now it is clear.

Yeah, i posted about this before. What seems to happen is that if you don't quit when first given the option and continue to pursue but end up quitting before the game stops the battle, the game seems to calculate the results as if all the enemy troops weren't routing. I noticed it on a particuarly well fought river battle where I managed to start an almost RTW like chain rout. I'd barely lost a man and I decided to control my cavalry in the pursuit. After making sure i'd got all their canon, I gave up.
When i got to the results screen I was very suprised to see my Grenadiers had lost an additional 60 odd men and my (previously untouched) canons were absolutely devastated.

How do I auto-resolve a battle where I've killed 90% of the enemy and victory is assured but I don't want to play out the rest of it? If I hit Esc>End Battle the last remaining 10 enemy will kill all 1000 of my troops!

Well... you can't, them's the rules Otherwise you could just, say, do a mass cavalry charge, kill 200 guys at once, and then quit for a likely win before your cavalry start to die.
