    Default Flickering Units & Cities

    I'm running EB 1.2 with all the permanent fixes applied and am running into some very frustrating video display issues just after installing that I've been unsuccessful in fixing.

    The problems I've had are as follows:
    - on the campaign map the water, mountains, trees and landscape appears great, but cities, characters, units, resources are all flickering;
    - on the battle map all units and city features appear to be flickering;
    - sometimes load screens before/after battles/starting a campaign go completely black save for the green loading bar at the bottom of the screen. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to this as sometimes it happens and other times it works fine.
    - had ctd on starting a battle but the permanent fixes appeared to cure that

    What I'm running is:
    - RTW 1.3 patched to 1.5 with EB 1.1 patched to 1.2 including permanent fixes
    - all video settings are set to highest
    - using resolution 1024 x 768
    - 64-bit Vista (I know ... I hate it, too)
    - Dell XPs 730
    - ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 with most up-to-date drivers available

    I admit I'm hopelessly lost with this and would appreciate any help anyone can offer as this is the best RTW mod out there and I'd like to get back to playing it on thisnew upgraded computer.

    Thanks in advance

    sounds like your video card could be overheating...

    Would it do that right from the outset even though it doesn't do it for other more graphically intense games?

    I figured given how high end the card is compared to the old one I had which had no problems that overheating wouldn't be a problem.

    have you checked if the fan on the video card is working?
