CTD when trying to start new "Grand Campaign"

I just finished my first grand campaign as Prussia. It was great, not 1 single CTD or freeze. Now when I go to "grand campaign" i get a white screen saying "etw has encountered an error." What gives? I hope this isn't related to a recent patch, because I had zero problems till today...

Everything works just fine, MP, custom battles, savegames, RtI, etc. I just can't select "Grand Campaign."

Some people have been able to solve this by deleting their preferences file and then empty the fx_cahce folder. Please try and see if this might help you as well.

I've had this problem even before the patch, was hoping the next patch might fix it but what Tassen suggested sounds interesting so I'll have to try it, could you explain how to do that Tassen?

Ok, here goes...

The folder path is partially, at least under XP, hidden so make sure you can view hidden files and folders before trying this. Then go to the folder and manually delete the saves.

If you then go one folder up from the save_games folder in the folder hierarchy there's another folder, among many others, named fx_cache. Just delete all the files inside this folder too.

XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\The Creative Assembly\Empire\save_games

Vista:
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\save_games

Well I've just cleared the fx_cache and now I'm unable to run the game because steam needs to be connected to the internet, now I have to drag this piece of crap downstairs for a connection again YAYY! only takes like 10 mins anyway so I don't mind, especially if it works.

Alright, deleting fx_cache content didn't work. Which preferences folder/file are you referring to which people deleted? The script? Or the battle preferences?
