    Default Vassalisation

A concept which I've never bothered with much, personally prefering to crush my enemies rather more wholeheartedly.
However, playing Vanilla again for a change as Milan, Venice seiges my capital, and I win the ensueing battle. However the next thing they do is send a diplomat and demand my vassalisation. Largely out of curiousity, I accepted.
What effect does this actually have? As far as I could tell it was very little apart from Alliance, Maps, and Militiary access, which I proptly broke not long after by declaring war on a mutual ally.

Have I not noticed something major, or is that really all there is to it?

This has been answered many times and yet another thread is started. Please do a search. A good place to start without a search would be Rebel6666's The Great M2TW Information Thread

Thanks for the link, and point very much taken, but my post was largely about the possibility of the player being vassalised by the AI, a question to which the otherwise wonderful thred you guided me to has no answer.

Being a vassal of the AI is one thing but you will have to pay him tribute. My cousin did this once and it helped him get back on his feet as he was gangbanged by a Alliance block of 4 factions where he was caught between them and was lossing more ground each turn. After accepting to become a Vassal of HRE (who I must add they tend to always ask the player)

By doing so all other AI factions stopped attacking him. After he was back on his feet he declared war to an ally of HRE and HRE broked the Vassaship. this is one thing the player musen't (SP) do. keep your vassal and protect him. In that state of mind I've never got backstabbed

I mean... I can easily handle 5 enemies at a time... Even my behind has more brains then the AI in M2...
E:TW's natives have developed a new "Ballistic Automatic Detection And Seeking System" to utterly annihilate any European that sets foot on their soil... That's BADASS for short!

I did suggest research also. I will help you out with one more clue: Becoming a Vassal

You on on your own with the search button for the rest. I suggest starting on advanced and only searching titles. It is up to you for the method that works best though. Good luck!

I don't understand it, personally. I was able to get France, who still had a decent kingdom, to become a vassal earlier today without any economic or territorial concessions; however, the Spanish refused even though they where on their last legs and I offered them massive amounts of money.

I think relationships with factions, and the skill of the diplomat, play a big role.

You are are right your relashionship with them and your global Rep plays a big role on how the AI reacts to you.

E.G. I'am playing as the Turks and I was allied with Egypte from turn one and now turn 60. They betrayed me by blocking one of my ports and Sent them a goo diplomat ask them to become a vassal, the offer was balanced, so to be sure I offered them 50000 florins and they happily accepted and turn after they gave me 86 000 florins, not sure here but I thbik that I have made around 30 000 florins profit all of thius because of the AI error

When on their last legs, a faction is really unwilling to make a deal that keeps them on ther last legs. Try offering a setttlement or two to help reestablish the Kingdom.

There does need to be a fix for vassal status, though. The only way they should be able to break their vassalage is to attack the player, or the AI faction they are vassals to. France broke their vassalage to me because I attack the Moors, with whom they where allied.

    It just dosn't make sense.

I agree with you upon a certain point but you need to keep in mind that it's a game. On a side note, if your relationship with France and you're wasn't as good as the them was with the Moors that is the reason why they have stayed with the Moors.

In my campaign with the English I have made the Scots as my vassals, and they were allied with Portugaul, my relationship with them and Global Rep was higher than Portugual so even if they were allied for like 40 turns, the Scots stayed with me when Portugual attacked me.

So IMO that is how I think and it always worked like that for me. Take this as you wish, but I'am sure of what I'm talking about here.

    Don't hesitate to reply

Maybe so, but vassalage is a diplomatic agreement - it is the taking over of one state by another. It just dosn't make sense that the servant should be able to pick and choose who they are allied to. They should be allied to their master state, unless they rebel against them.
