I’ve decided to start a list of morons and idiots that you probably want to avoid playing. I will add to it as I run into these “characters“. I wont play these players because of all or one of the following reasons.
1. Once terms are agreed upon pre-game, they chose to break them and cheat (For example, “no mortars”).
2. They act immature and tend to act like a horses a$$.
3. You achieve victory versus them on agreed upon terms, then they start calling you a “cheater” or “fag”.

Well when people are openly using cheats, it is important to remember who they are. The MP community has always relied on trusting your opponent to follow the rules you want for your game (if you have a set of specific rules then host your own battle). This way everyone can have fun. If those rules are broken in a ranked battle, you can't just get up and leave. People deliberately do this to aggravate and get free ranked experience. It is a "watch out list" not a "autoban this guy list"
The worst thing is when people have modded the game so they can bring 20 fully upgraded elite units. Doesn't equate to fairness or fun imo.
I totally, totally agree with you.
A fix for people breaking the rules would be as simple as having no rules. I know allot of people care about winning, it's a big deal for people, I just love to have fun.
Besides, it's hilarious trying to crush a person who is using like 10 mortars and the rest jaegers. It's a rush, however I don't see what is so powerfull about that. I have yet to lose to Mortar spam...
There shouldn't be rules in Ranked battles.
DONT START ABOUT MORTARS THEY ARE OVERPOWERED

i'm not worried about mortars. i'm worried about the slew of folks i just played against who (somehow) have line infantry with full-map range with their rifles. half of my armies got gunned down from the other side of the map before i'd taken 10 steps.
exactly the reason why i never liked, nor will i ever like TW multiplayer. not even a month in, and the lobby's already full of hackers.

The best way to avoid this is get in a clan or something where you can play with people you know and trust to not break the rules. Trust me, I hated ETW online until I started playing with people I know from NTW2 only, and now its a lot more fun because everyone plays to the rules, brings balanced armies, etc.
There is a known bug with light infantry, that if an enemy advances into their range and then withdraws out of it, they can somehow, sometimes, keep shooting - literally across the breadth of the map targetting that same unit, even when both it, and themselves are hidden.
As soon as the owner of said buggy light infantry moves them/targets someone else, the 'spell is ended' as it were.
If this bug occurs, and your opponent is someone of any Grace, simply ask them to end the bug themselves.
More often than not, they're just running down their ammo killing the odd skirmisher anyhow.
I think it's more demoralising (to the players rather than his units even) than it is actually damaging.
as much as i wish i could, i only get about an hour late at night, when i'm done with the day's work, to actually play Empire. so clans are pretty much out of the question for me.

The problem with this european clan is that I play while they are working and they play while I am sleeping.![]()
I played a 4v4 where the only rule was no mortars, one of our enemies ( http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197963694325 ) took 4 mortar units, and blew one of my allies army to pieces in a matter of minutes. When that army was decimated enough, he killed all my artillery.
