Good none sci-fi RTS game?

Hi. As the topic says. Does anyone of you know a really good none sci-fi RTS game? I'm thinking something like warcraft 3 and the old age of empires. something with axes, swords and magic. and why did all the big companies stop making those?

Okey this is a old game but have you played Age of mythology, its my personal favorite AoE style game

A Total War game perhaps. I can recommend World in Conflict, but that's not really the old kind of RTS. One of the Anno games maybe. AoM is good, and why the hell can I only really think of sci-fi rts games?

In addition to those awesome games listed already I would recommend, Rise and Fall, Rise of legends, Battle for middle earth, and Command and conquer: Generals. And of course any total war game.

@ gobbothegreen: I've tried age of mythology and I enjoyed it very much, but I guess I wasn't really clear I want something newly released

@ selifator: the total war games aren't pure RTS, only on the battlemap. might take a look at world in conflict though I would like a game with swords and not guns though. the anno game looks good, might try that aswell

If you're going to try BFME play the first one if you want that epic, lord of the rings feel or if you want fast paced action play the sequels. But I think the first one is by far the best.

I didn't like the BFME games.They felt too small scale; at most like 30 horsemen for those giant charges in the movies = fail.

Rise of Nations or Warcraft 3 (if you don't mind magic).

You can get mods for that, there's one that expands the population cap tremendously.
