What a. Hi there, most of us manage to control our food intake enough to not become hideous whale beasts, please do not bring in yet another Labour tax under the guise of it being for our own good.
Why even bother with chocolate? I'm lean asing hell, in the single digits of body fat percentage (work out alot though) and I eat a piece of dark chocolate every day for health reasons.
It's fast food that needs to be taxed, so heavily it becomes a rare treat. I'm sick and tired of seeing all these poorin kids in my country being raised on the
, because their parents are incompetent douchebags.

I'd tax pop before I'd sin tax chocolate...
Have things like cigarette taxes even accomplished anything? Cause I sure haven't seen any sign of it.
Instead of affecting everyone for the faults of a minority, the minority at fault should be the only ones affected (ie, this tax is a bad idea).
it was 5-7 years ago that australia introduced a junk food tax, mainly to fastfood outlets that increased prices obstensively, to combat obesity.
all these years have passed, and what improvement has there been?
zero. almost exact same proportions of society are either obese or non obese.
how exactly have these taxes helped?
well there are more rich people thats for sure, but not as many as there are poor people as a result.
the moral of the day-
politicians dont know anything and im absolutely astonished they dare refer to themselves as educated.
Well they have more tax dollars to throw at stuff that wont work.
This type of measure would punish those who have no problem with their health/weight but enjoy the occasional bit of chocolate. It's the same with the alcohol minimum price they are planning to introduce here in the UK; again - people like myself who don't have a drink problem and don't cause problems when drunk will be punished for the actions of other people.
The key is to educate people from a young age about the dangers of eating junk food as the main part of your diet - and also showing parents that it's possible to eat a perfectly healthy diet for all the family without breaking the bank.
All this junk food/alcohol tax bollocks - let's justing tax the chavs and be done with it.
In fairness, the government hasn't responded positively to the idea: it's just one doctor who's decided that chocolate is the major health problem of the day. Which is good because we have quite enough social engineering through taxation already, one irony of New Labour being this strange urge to penalise poor people for enjoying things, in moderation or otherwise.
David Mitchell on Question Time:
If you put a tax on chocolate to stop people going obese, don't rich people deserve to be saved from obesity as well? A tax won't really impact on them, so we'll have a billionnaire obesity epidemic.
Why not tax the hamburgers and french fries instead of chocolade which is quite light in comparison; Of course the milk or "white chocolate" with tons of sugar and little cacao is different matter. But like "eco tax" on gass the new "health tax" is just another tax grab on helplessserfscitisens..
Nah it won't go through. Why should I suffer because some fatties can't stop guzzling down the Cadburys? I'm more and more attracted to Giles Coren's idea of taxing fat people.
Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't touch chocolate.
Ban McDonalds, burn down stores that sell Pepsi (go soft on the ones who have Coke, though) and give out free fruit on every street corner.
But if those guys touch chocolate, I'll be right there along with all the other chocolate lovers, exercising our right to free assembly. With torches and pitchforks. At Downing St. 10! GRRR!
Under the stern but loving patronage of Nihil.

I feel for all the UK'ers if they tax your chocolate. You can ban fast food and soda, but if someone takes away my chocolate, the state will have an revolution on it's hands.
