Icon1 Various Weapon Reload Time Reference

I didn't recall this topic ever came up, although someone did request it to help modding. Even if it did, it's definitely sunk now.

Since I am doing this anyway, might as well put it up here, in case someone likes to see it.

Edit Thanks to Van Diemen, I made a formula to suit this particular reference Actual Reload Time = Base Time - (Total skill * Time per Reload Skill)

eq: French Line, Musket(base 50) Reloading Skill (25), no experience, Time per Reload Skill 1 second ----------- 25 = 50-(25*1)

----------------These are done on four factions - Britain, Austria, France, and United Provinces, all with a timer from right before a unit begin to reach for ammunition.

    Base Value is 0

    Time : Reload Value

Line infantry musket base reload time = 50sec (subtract 1 second for each value increase) 1:1

Light infantry musket base reload time = 60sec (subtract 1 second for each value increase) 1:1

Rifled Musket base reload time = 40sec (subtract 0.2 second for each value increase) 0.2:1

Breech Loader base reload time = 30sec (subtract 0.5 second for each value increase) 0.5:1

-----------Artillery is timed right before they reach for ammunition same as light arms.

All artillery pieces except mortar base reload time = 37.5 sec (subtract 0.5 second for each value increase) 0.5:1

Mortar base reload time = 42.5 sec (subtract 0.5 second for each value increase) 0.5:1

Rocket base reload time = 57.5 sec (subtract 0.5 second for each value increase) 0.5:1

Note : Also, there seems to be a 5-sec randomness to cannons, in which a cannon sometimes reload with 5 seconds less time.

It appears to be most frequent on the late artillary pieces.

Puckle Gun takes 8 seconds to load, whatever the reload skill value it has since the animation takes at least 8 seconds to complete before firing.

So here it is. It might not be completely accurate, but it at least provide a reference for modifying reload value until a more definite solution comes up.

I'll be updating this soon when I get to play again. If anyone want to post other info, you're of course, welcome to do so.

Edit : If you find any more differences such as the British Line Infantry being 5 seconds slower although has a reloading skill of 30, please, feel free to post here, I'll updated it as soon as possible.

What i don't understand with the reloading, why do they have to pump like 7/8 times in the barrel?Just 4 times is enough...

Yes, indeed however badly trained troops don't know that of course, according to CA . In game the only process that has been made to take more or less time is the process of pushing the musketball with paper down the barrel. Sad I know!

BTW: I believe that a base of 55 points and a substraction of 0.8 is more accurate for the reload time of the smoothbore musket in game.

    Thanks for the reply.

I've made a few more test, and it seem the british line infantry take 5 more seconds to reload than three other factions' units I've tested. For reasons unknown.

As for the test differences, 0.2 is not really that noticeable, and the way we timed them could be different also, however slight it might be.

It would be a lot better if we could just look at the game values themselves.

That's not what this is about! It is to translate any reference values to game value, that's why this can be important.

beep88: Brittish Line infantry (around battle of Culloden) were able to fire 4 rounds per minute. Prussians sources mention elite line infantry regiments doing 5 rounds per minute. French were much lower in the 2-3 rounds per minute region, because they used slightly tigher bullets.Low quality Line infantry should be able to fire 1-2 rounds per minute.

Light infantry used tight bullet and riffled barrels, their accuracy was much better than with smothbore musket, but reload times were much longer - even elite units shouldnt be able to fire faster than 2 rounds per minute.(until development of breachloaders)

It's exactly what I meant, how the game handle this could be a lot different. Therefore, by simply using a timer is definitely not a best way to accomplish this.

Jam : A history lesson is always welcome, I majored in it myself, although at a different field.

really... has anyone figured out for sure how reload times are calculated??? I have empire with TROM, and whichever projectiles table I edit, in TROM or in patch5 or wherever... and no matter if I have a flintlock reload time of 12 or 45 it still seems to tame my British Line infantry around 35-40 seconds to reload.
