    Default Great mod BUT combat takes an eternity

    Love both Roma Surrectum and SPQR, only con on both is... why in God's name do battles take 8 freaking hours to complete.

    Even when i turn game speed to 3x i nearly fall asleep waiting for a rout, wtf? is there a RS or SPQR mod with battles and soldiers that die in realistic vanilla time frames?

    Faster battles with soldiers who die on the 5th or 6th hit instead of the 50th still can have a heap of tactics to them, the battles take so long as is i just doze off if i dont have the game at 3x speed.

    lulz pacco, i'm not talking about battle time limit man, lol. I'm talking about once combat starts, if there are no hammer and anvil strikes the battle takes a rediculous amount of time to complete. 1 legionary before he dies will get knocked down around 4 freaking times. That's pooh pooh. imho.

    Adjusting your tactics can help.

    When I 1st started out on RS I was averaging 4 hour battles (for large battles), but now I average 30mins to an hour. Though some battle do go on for very over realistic amounts of time.
    I once got a Legion stuck in a line a greeks and it took me 6 hours to organize a breakout, 3 hours to initiate 2 hours to roll up the lines and 4 hours to push them back.

    I agree, maybe the battles should be a little faster...

    I'd like to keep even the hardest large battle under 3 hours.

    I don't think I have ever had a battle last an hour. :hmmm:
    Especially against Rome. :laughing:

    It's how it really was... actually it's still much quicker than it really was, but at least it's an approximation.

    Its fine as it is. No more vanilla suicide squads routing after 30 seconds.

    All major battles are an hour maximum for me(hate loading them though).

    So true, such as...Romans vs..Britons - both sides equally matched..I charged..fought maybe 20 seconds..whole line ran away haha = lame.

    I love RS and SPQR battles

    8-10 mins in some cases 25 tops, Battle Done..time to go to the next battle.

    Yes indeed like me, i never had a battle who take long then 40 mim maybe in ever game or mod i play(TW) even on SPQR and RS, wich the battles are longer, but 6 hours???? man you arent right.. lol what you do to take 6 hours run away from enemy? i think you are mistaking, even large battles with 2v2 2v1 3v2 stacks dont take longer then 45 mim, i mean if was six hours you wont do anything helse in life...lol

    Realistic vannilla time frames?

    I give that battles in SPQR and RS take longer but i belive this is a good thing, a fair aproximation, and above all, it gives you time to do your tactics, with inf and cav. Its hard , i its a good thing that is hard, dont want this mod to be easy in battle. Its true sometimes its hard to have a rout, and AI seems to last alot longer, but i dont find that a problem, if you use cav as it should. Charge,retreat, and charge again and go on, like this, AI rout like rabbits in no time.

    Look i understand your point, but maybe you must view things from other perspective.You must adapt to the gameplay, if you do that its alot of fun, and its perfect.

    On the other hand i find those suicide charges from the AI general, very anoying. Lost alot of generals, and its easy to kill enemy general.( In SPQR also this happens alot.) Dont like this a bit, i was wondering if its possible to change that, i see better Ai in other mods concerning this, like Europa Barbarum, in that mod i find kiling a enemy general very dificult, they are very smart.

    You must not have had many epic battles then, because I have some that last a good 25 minutes or more.
    Thats playing as a successor state fighting evenly matched successor foes of the same troop quality.

    Hmm battles are usually pretty quick for me in this mod. I think what takes longest is the maneuvering...but once the lines engage it goes by relatively quickly. Definetely not for 6 hours. Maybe 15-20 minutes. Longest battle in this mod was probably around an hour and a half. I play on H/VH and my hastati and principes always seem to get torn up. The triarii are really the only ones I except to last without routing under pressure. The principes can only take so much, and the hastati much much less.

    A realistic length of time for a battle would be more in the order of several hours. Vanilla has got it totally wrong in thinking that battles would take just a few minutes.

    Well thats true, I don't think rome had many 15 min battles,

    Yes and Rome hadnt any 1 turn or 7 turns building of barracks or whatever. No argument at all.

    I totally agree man but in some cases it's ridiculous the time units take to break - even relatively low quality units against say Hoplites of Syracuse AND surounded often dont break till they have less than 10 men left .. now vanilla may have went one extreme but RS 1.5 has went the other - turning levies into supermen !! to an extent

    i dont know how you guys can get battles that last six hours, mine usually take 30 minutes to an hour, but i think a way of getting them would be having a couple of giant phalanx armies fight each other, without horses. that would take forever.

    CA was making a game, not a battle re-creation. I agree with the OP, long battles are nice, but not too long or the game takes forever to play.
