I only do stuff like that when it is mid-late game and it starts to get boring, because I cant be stopped.

only catholic factions can call crusades, and you can't call them if you're ex-communicated, and only ex-commed catholic factions can be targets for crusades.

try to be disliked by the cristian factions so they call a crusade on you so it will be much harder.

Any community that gets its laughs by pretending to be idiots will eventually be flooded by actual idiots who mistakenly believe that they are in good company.
I've done it playing muslim factions more for roleplaying than anything else. I'll take the holy lands and then do my best to get a crusade called on me. It's one of the only ways to get the AI to actively wage war against you and it makes the game challenging.
