Vista issues and issues installing the fix

WINDOWS VISTA AND GENERAL "FATAL ERROR" FIX

Some users, that use Vista and even ones that don't have been reporting a "fatal error" upon loading BC.

To fix this issue simply install BC 1.0 as usual but add the following step:

1) Download http://www.brokencrescent.com/Downlo..._error_fix.zip
2) Unzip file into C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\ and replace the existing .cfg file.

All credit goes to loet66 for fixing the recurring vista crash.

this patch from another thread, for some reason the link wont work and it says the URL cant be found in the browser, I downloaded the thumbnailed attached patch, and it said BC already had it and im still getting the fatal error, btw I have Vista

Could someone explain what this fix does to make the game playable on Vista? I'm having nightmares getting my Vista betatesters to run my mod.

hmm, yes for some reason this fix doesnt help me, I still cant run BC

That server has been taken down, and I am not sure if the file exist anywhere else on BC forum. I'll move you post to Tech Help, and hopefully someone may be able to help out.

Sig1, GrandViz explained me how it works, but I forgot.

It's is not the sure fix either, as it seems to be several different Vista issues with running mods. In the other hand, some people didn't have any issues with Vista, so I assume it's all up to the local configuration.

Is the problem solved because he added this to the CFG file:

?

no mate, I already installed that zip file, and i unpacked ti in the medieval 2 folder where the other BC stuff is, it says that the file with that name is already there and if I should replace it, i click yes but am I supposed to have both files, the original and the repair one?

Excuse me, but you should replace the file, as it is said in the text you had cited in 1. post. The fix works for me. I have vista and, what is strange, in two cases of reinstalling the system and BC I had to use the fix, in few other cases BC run without it. Have you got any other mods installed? Maybe you messed up something with BC installation?

nope no mods and no kingdoms (was planning on picking it up this weekend though), and thats what i have been doing replacing it, but same error pops up, btw i have 32-bit vista

IMO it's unusual, i have 32-bit vista too, i'm tinkering with BC pretty much, and usually there're no errors. But if they are and i do not know what causes the game to crash, then i'm reinstalling it. Do the same, it's my suggestion, and be careful, as it is easy to omit some important steps, especially, if you're a very impatient man

M2TW + M2TW 1.3 patch + BC 1.0 + BC 1.05 patch + fixes for BC 1.05 -> now try to play, maybe you don't need a vista fix, if you do, then -> Vista fix

Sorry for these truisms, but i don't have any idea what can be wrong with your installation, except your possible mistake.

hmm, neither do I, wait there is fixes for BC 1.05? I installed what i thought just 1.05 the vista fixed as linked above, and M2TW 1.3 patch was given to me in a ling through the general discussions thread, hmm ima reinstall it i guesss, my problem is it wont even load, I haven't actually played BC yet, got to the picture and it chrashes saying unexpected Error occured
