Police in Germany have confirmed the gunman who shot and killed 12 people during a shooting spree at a school in Winnenden, Germany, is dead. The individual reportedly fled the scene and died during a shootout with police in a grocery store in Wendlingen, 40km away, which killed two others and seriously wounded two police officers.
Police have also further confirmed that nine students and three teachers were killed during the shooting spree at the Albertville Realschule secondary school in Winnenden, near Stuttgart.
The lone gunman, dressed in black combat clothes, fled the scene in a car to a Wendlingen, a town 40km away from Winnenden, where the school shooting took place.
The gunman reportedy also killed an innocent bystander at a clinic near the school as he fled.

According to primary reports, a shoot out between the gunman and police officers ensued in a grocery store, during which the gunman was killed. Two other people also died during the shootout, which left two police officers seriously wounded.
This brings the death toll to a total of 16.
