Change the processor of #1 to an E8400 and you've got a winner here. Can't go wrong with #2 though.

$352 for a E7400, 4Gb of ram and a HD 4850, what a bargain. There's hardly any difference between the E7400 and the E8400 apart from the L2 chace and 200mhz stock (which should be easily gained back from boosting the FSB in the BIOS)

Does extra chace make a big difference? Take a look at this and judge for yourself.

I just compared several prices on NCIX also using a currency converter, and NCIX sells their parts cheaper than the coversion says it should be.

For example the EVGA X58 mobo is 379 CAD and 277 USD, yet according to the conversion ratio they should be charging 296 USD for that part

If I were to buy the parts for my new computer in Canada right now it would cost 3,400 CAD

    USA prices FTW!!!

Freddie your really convincing me that the e8400 isn't worth the extra cash, or cache . So you can raise the FSB in the BIOS without raising the actual clock speed? Is that considered OC'ing and does it lead to any stability or longevity issues like traditional OC'ing can?

Right now #1 and #2 are tied, so its a question of if the HD 4850 is $10 better then the 9800 GTX+ lol. Of course in the next couple of years I will probably upgrade to what is currently a top card like the GTX285 when its dirt cheap.

I would say the $10 difference is reflective of the performance advantage the HD4850 has over the 9800 GTX+ (maybe it's worth a bit then $10). As for overclocking, if you riase the FSB it will increase your clockrate. Clockrate is determined by your CPU's multiplier and FSB in the case of the E7400 2.8Ghz it would be 10.5 x 266 FSB = 2800/.2.8ghz. To get the E7400 to E8400 speeds all you need to do is raise the FSB to 286 which will give you a clock speed of just over 3Ghz.

There's a bit more to it then that but that gives you the idea, also such as small increase won't require any increase in voltage (which does shorten the life of your CPU) and shouldn't cause you any problems. In fact I'm guessing once you have done it once it won't be long until you try to find out just how fast it can go.

I would possibly bump it up to 8400 levels, but not more then that, i don't plan on really getting into overclocking. I don't wanna be one of those guys who has to have an open case cooled with liquid nitrogen cuz i'm trying to hit 5.6 GHz
