    Default Rebels and Mercs

There are a few rebel provinces on the map and I was thinking that we should discuss what units and stuff will be there, also the same thing for local regional units already controlled by factions at the start if there are any.

Lets see Taiwanese Natives live on Taiwan that is independent at the start of the game, what do they look like?

Also, a independent part of Indonesia is on it.

And the Ainu of Hokkaido, Sakhalin and perhaps Northern Honshu.

Good initiative. In order to further this, here is a list of regions and their peoples that don't have factions. Keep in mind that in AUH, we have very, very few rebel provinces. This is twofold. For AI reasons, the AI is worse off trying to rush for the same rebel provinces as the player, so it becomes a checkpoint game of Unreal Tournament where the player has the ability to teleport(or, god forbid, the rebels be full stacks, which means the AI isn't going anywhere at all!). Also, for gameplay reasons, since most of the regions we covered had sovereign authority of one of our main factions or could have it argued.

    Luzon Province ~ Filipino Tribes
Bumthang Province ~ Tibetan/Bengali amalgamate, south of the Himalayas
    Vaisali Province ~ Pyu/Rakhine State/Peoples
(Not to be confused with Vaishali province in India)
Phayao Province ~ Thai Peoples (pre-cursor to the Sukhothai Kingdom)
    Bikrampur Province ~ Bengali(Sena) Peoples
Gauhati Province ~ Assamese, Tibeto-Burman, Thai Peoples (Kamata/Ahom Kingdom)
Charaideo Province ~ Assamese, Tibeto-Burman, Thai Peoples (Kamata/Ahom Kingdom)
Kamatapur Province ~ Assamese, Tibeto-Burman, Thai Peoples (Kamata/Ahom Kingdom)
    Boli Province ~ Proto-Cossack & Tungusic Tribes
    Hailanpao Province ~ Proto-Cossack & Tungusic Tribes
    Jiamusi Province ~ Balhae Peoples
    Hwaju Province ~ Balhae Peoples
    Sapporo Province ~ Ainu Tribes
Kuwu Province ~ Ainu Tribes (could also include Nivkh peoples, though their direct domain is off-map)
    Liuqiu Province ~ Taiwanese Peoples

Most of those as you can see are in the far northeast(4 regions), far southwest(7 regions), or on islands(4 regions). This is because only certain parts of Indochina and outlying regions of Jurchen dominion could be considered outside the bounds of hegemony on the mainland. All other minorities who constitute part of a larger kingdom should most probably be discussed in the faction thread of the respective kingdom, even if they are meant to just be a regional unit in that dominion.

Don't worry mate, we've got plenty of ideas for merc troops and rebels.

AU, I personally have read quite a bit on Filipino, Bornean, and Malaysian/Javan warriors. Lots of unique and extremely badass fighters came from this area. Hell the Filipino's were STILL terrifying the Japanese in WWII.

Another thing that shouldn't be over looked is the Taiwanese headhunter tribes who made colonisation for the Chinese absolute hell there.

In fact personally, I'd like to be given the task of coming up with all the different merc and rebel units (descriptions, names, what they look like) for this mod. I have about half a dozen of them in my head from all over the map already.

Oh, those peoples sound very interesting, can you tell us some stuff about them?

Also, As for the "Sapporo Province", shouldn't it be called something ells? Because Sapporo wasn't founded until after the time frame of this mod if I'm not mistaken. The Japanese called Hokkaido different names at different times, like Ezo. The Ainu had its own name for the entire island, I forgot what it is called. Maybe Hokkaido can have 2 provinces, as it is a large island.

The Ainu? There will likely be a regional merc unit, but our production philosophy is to focus on the main factions before we worry about things like mercs or armor upgrades or what have you, which takes time away from new faction-unique units. When that's all said and done we'll have an idea of how many unit slots we have for things like mercenaries and how many we want to use for AOR purposes.
