    Default Gamebreaking/eyebreaking issue

    Dear tech-savvy people of TWcenter.

My eyes are currently in danger of popping out of their sockets, due to a nasty flickering issue with E:TW. The game simply flickers like mad. I tried to get a screenshot, but it would somehow not show the flicker. I have tried with both vsync on and off. Turning it on would increase the frequency of the flicker (from very quickly to freaking insane).

I tried to change around on all settings, but to no avail. The problem is persistent in the campaign mode as well as battle mode. I read somewhere that turning AA/AF on to automatic would solve the problem (in the ATI control center), but in my case it's already set to that option.

I beg you, please help me out! I really want to play this but my eyes are actually hurting right now.

    Cheers,
    Henrik

Edit: I'm using the newest ATI drivers.

The newest (9.2) ATI drivers don't work nicely with ETW it seems. Using 8.12 with a 4870x2 here and having no problems. Check your adaptive AA setting in CCC, turn it off. Check your Catalyst AI setting, set to advanced and enable it, if its enabled try disabling it (but note only one GPU will oerate in that mode).

    Hopefully 9.3 works better.

Same Problem with 9.2 and a 4870. Workaround : Start the battle, hit ESC, go to graphics options, switch one of the buttons (i usualy use the vsync one) on or off, go back to game and the flickering hast stopped. You have to do it for every batte.

Thank you very much kind sir, you just saved my evening, rescued my eyes and caused a massive amount of lost sleep.

    Buckets of rep for you!

Thanks for the suggestion ianrush, I tried that earlier though without much success. Seems like 9.2 is the bad guy!

Well, it came back earlier today. I tried reinstalling the drivers, but it messed up and the only thing which worked installing was the 9.2 drivers. The game ran perfectly with those until I was to turn it on this evening. Now it's back again.

Do I have to re-install drivers every time I am to play the game, and alternate between two versions to top it off?

Would very much appreciate any tips on how to solve this.

Edit: the flicker occurs on models only. For instance, in the campaign map it's buildings, trees and units that flicker. Not the ground, sea or anything like that. Same thing in the battle mode.

Edit 2: worked right now, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. oh well, here's one hoping for a patch soon.

I am having the exact same issue. 4870X2 here too so maybe that's the common denominator. I have not found a fix myself, but it does seem to go away if I uninstall my card and add the drivers again. But after a game or two it's back and I cannot load games anymore.

My current "fix" is to reboot my computer when it happens. Haven't tried it with the newest patch though.

Same card as me and 9.2 and 9.3 worked very well for me.

    Couple of things to try:

In your card control panel set everything to 'use application settings' in the 3d menu.I use the tab 'all settings' for ease.

Secondly turn off adaptive anti aliasing.

    Give that a bash.......good luck.
