    Default Ireland what next

im sure everyone has heard of the the recnet attacks in northen ireland which has lead to 4 peopel being wounded 2 british soliders dead and one police officer killed. these attacks have been done by IRA splinter groups who continue the IRA's old radical views. now whilst its very good to see people like shinfane condeming these attacks and whislt these people supposldy have no support form the irsh people (somthing i highly dout). do you think these attacks will continue and get worse??? i personally think that they will continue but will be nothnig compared to the old problems a decade or so ago. but what does everyone here think??

Won't make a difference. I am totally for the 6 counties back but the IRA are using old tactics and don't have the firepower.

Nothing they can do except upset a few families...... kind of useless.

The attacks are tragic, but it's not a question of 'what next?'. The IRA (whichever factions is still going) no longer has the arms and fighters, and crucially the popular support to carry out any effective campaign of violence.
This will hopefully be an isolated incident, anf wont prevent the rest of NI from seeking peace and prosperity on democratic terms.
Even Sinn Fein condemned the attacks.

They aren't getting many. Crackpots in NI are decidedly a minority now - estimates as to the number of active republican paramilitaries run at about 300.

Thats in the north probably, there's plenty of violent types in the south(now unemployed) who see it as their patriotic duty to get really drunk, sing old IRA songs, make blood oaths with every able-bodied man in the room to take the north back and show off a gun their grandad used to drive the black-and-tans from New Ross or something. You know that old chestnut.

Well hopefully the perpetrators will be tracked down and brought to justice. However, the biggest threat at the moment is revenge attacks from Loyalest paramilitaries- if that happens then we can see a return to the Troubles (Not to the same extent though).

However, if we catch the suspects soon, and the Loyalists refrain, then it will probably go back to peace, although it will be a bit more uneasy this time round.
