Default Post your reviews of the Unplayable factions.

So I unlocked all the factions with the mod.

My first play was as Pirates. Their only land unit was buccaneers which is a melee unit. (Doesnt matter much tho, since the AI cant even launch naval invasions) But it limited my gameplay options.

I then played as the Knights of St. John, only to discover they only had a couple different buildings, governors palace and so forth, various barracks.

Morroco had a bit more in the way of buildings, and land units, but not much.

I am now playing as the Italian states, I cant build a decent navy though as they can't build admiralty, so no research for naval techs.

Has anyone played as one of the unplayable factions that have a good unit roster and building availability?

PS: This thread is not to rant about how much CA sucks.

well, since you mention pirates, i really would like to see them in some modded version.
you know, strong, maybe cheap navy but rather weak land units. some skirmishers, light artillery and strong melee.

I started as Venice , and After a initial struggling I been able to kick out of Europe Turks , Made alliance with Austry and I have been protecting Austrian borders all time from Russia , Prussia and Polony , then I also Conquered all of Italy but Savoy wich is under France....

I have been able to skip the initial lack of places where to make technology improvements by destroying building ion a picked city and then start again building school so I been able to open the technology tree etc.... now I have a moderate power , I have a wide selection of Units , and a good commercial base....

I am still at war with the continental powers tough ....

I play as the unlocked Safavids (Persia) and I have to say that its quite difficult to play as them:
In the first round I made alliances with Russia and the Mughals, to keep my back free. In the second turn the Ottomans, Dagestan and Georgia declared war against the Shah.

Surprisingly the Ottomans were quite easy to beat in contrast to Georgia and Dagestan - after taking Yerevan the turks beg for peace and I concentrated my whole force on Georgia and Dagestan who have both an european modern army.

EDIT: The Persians just get 3k gold per round!

The Hurons are pretty fun, just from a historical point of view. I'll have almost no chance of dominating but i'll try to kick the europe out of the america's, then mass troops and try to hold. very limited in buildings. they did have some technologies though to improve the fur trading buildings etc.

Started with Savoyen, kinda hard with neighbouring Spain and France. No good recruiting buildings at start and no school. At least I've managed to capture Westfalen and Baden with the colleges of Marburg & Heidelberg (was able to move troops through France). I like Savoyen's unifom colours, my main reason to play 'em.

Italian States would be fun, unifying Italy and making a new Rome and all that, Pirates having one land unit though shouldn't be that much of a problem if you role play them and just attack shipping and capture the few tiny Islands around the Caribbean.

How are the Native American factions?

I'm having fun with them from the role playing standpoint. they have some building upgrades and a couple technologies if you happened to get a settlement with a college. and several troop choices make it fun.

Ok so as primitive factions, you dont get advanced stuff unless you capture a region with colleges and stuff?

    Thats pretty cool actually

the only technologies it showed that i could possible get where ones to improve some farms, mines, and fur traders. nothing in military and the technology (third tab) though

The native americans are actually able to learn any tech in the game, you just have to get it from another country that has it. I am playing as the Inuit and have been doing really well by taking over french colonies and selling them to england for tech. Seeing a group of Inuit melee infantry in square formation is funny as hell. Also, having canister and shrapnel shot makes the native cannon batteries very good indeed. The native factions take a long long time to get going as you can never recrut more then 1 unit at a time from any area, but once you have a few trading ports, get a small fleet of trading ships together, and get up a few decent sized armies you start to get going pretty good.... it just takes about 20 years or so.

Pueblo Nations was very fun. I kicked the out of New Spain very fast... but the religion becomes a problem as you have to have everything garrison quite a bit until your building can make them happier after like, 12 turns.

Mughals... Maratha kicked my ass in the FIRST TURN. I couldn't ever recover.

I'm going to try Portugal and gain a strong colonial position. The spainards in my neighbour won't be friendly, i presume.

As Portugal I control a LOT of trade posts but that doesn't give me the income I'd wanted. I started now a war against spain (ye... right) and I made an offensive to Madrid wich cost me half of my army. We are really weak now as we tryed to defend our contries the most, but I'm almost sure I'll have Spain in command VERY soon (I blocked a dock in south spain and those bastards kicked my ass with an enormous fleet :|)
