Default Empire: Total War Appropriate Movies?

Now that Empire:Total War is well and released, I was looking for some good movies to watch when I'm not playing it. I can't seem to think of any good ones and I need some musket and cannon fire to brighten up my day

He said "good" movies, not vomit-inducing jingoistic crap.

Several mentioned here are definitely worthwhile, especially:

    Waterloo
    Barry Lyndon
    The Mission
    Last of the Mohicans
and Master and Commander for an idea of life on a warship.

    I'd add The Duelists.

No, that is one of the most ridiculous movies I've seen in ages. Good soundtrack though

I have to recommend HBO's John Adams. Amazing, just like the book. Adams was a miserable bastard, a brilliant, essential founding father, but a (self-admitted) bastard nonetheless

Dino de Laurentiis' Waterloo is a bit old now but still a classic (Was made the year I was born ... 1970) Plenty of musket and cannon fire though.

Barry Lyndon, without doubt or reservation. One of the finest movies ever made.

Barry Lyndon is truly great to see some of the 18th century society as well.
An underestimated movie of my favourite director.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...
