Default [RELEASE] Legate ancillaries addon for SPQR 7

    Hello fellow loyal SPQR players,

Created the "Legate" (legion commander) ancillary addon for gameplay reasons and it should go well together with Houserules. In short, with this addon a General will be able to get a Legate ancillary for each specific legion.

The addon is not savegame compatible, hence you need to re-start a new campaign if you wish to use it. Sorry but it was the only way to tweak and manage this.

The addon is finished but curently being checked and tested. Will share the files very soon, together with instructions how to install.

    Sulla

EDIT: The release is available in HERE Correct version should have zip file name ending with _9.

    Right on.

How does that play into gameplay? Is it just a reminder of which general commands which legion?

I tried to follow the multi-thread derail about this, but I'm still confused.

Please elaborate for us hard of intellect.

One specific legate ancillary for each of the 28 legions.

You can get these already before Marius, making it valid for pre-marius legions as well.

The legate ancillary has 3 attributes but I might change this since the game should not be easier. The balance in SPQR is perfect as it is.

Anyway, the attributes I have assigned to the legate now are:
    +2 Influence
    +1 Troopmorale
    +1 Command

Here is an extract from the README that comes with the addon:

    B) HOW TO USE IN THE GAME
    1. Place a general in the settlement,
    2. Hit next turn button
    3. Voila, the general has acquired the Legate ancillary for the legion that is connected to that specific settlement.
    4. Each specific Legate ancillary can not be in force for more than for one general during the campaign. Remember that you can "swap" any ancillary between generals.
    5. However, if your general that has the legate ancillary dies, then the ancillary is no longer considered "in force" and can be produced again by repeating step B1 and step B2.

Congrats i am going to test it right away.

I did some quick testing and every thing seems to work.

I tested it with the 3 generals you start with as you can see.

Flavius got his ancillaries in Capua so i decided to get him killed to see if it would retrain after his dead.

After the dead of Flavius i decided to send Numerius to Capua, and tatataaaa after the next turn he got his legat ancillaries.

@ Lord Raglan - please check your pm!

@ Hesus - thanks my friend! I had actually given up at one point

There is one more thing we need to do - decide the attributes. Right now it is: Influence +2, Troopmorale +1 and Command +1.

I am more towards changing it to: Influence +1 and Troopmorale +1 (or only Troopmorale +1). I have asked Lt as well, after all it is his mod and this addon should be in line with his gameplay style.

Please keep on testing, especially to test if you could conquer a settlement not Roman from the start, to see if it works as it should.

My feeling though is towards +1 influence only, since just by being the commander of a full size legion gives you power and influence. I don't like any benefits to command and troopmoral as I don't want battles to be any easier. Just my feeling and GREAT JOB Sulla

yeah the main feeling is that it should only be +1 moral OR +1 influence

i'm in favour of +1 influence but agree that LT should get the final say as its his mod,
one question i have (and i am sure you've already prevented) is, is it possible for a character to get more than one Legate or has that been stopped

now as soon as i get the file i'll give it a go - i'm in eager anticipation

@ Lord Raglan - check your email and pm

It is possible for a general to get more than one of these ancillaries. A general can have max 8 ancillaries.

I faced problems when combining too many conditions. There is also a limit for excluding max 5 (or 6? can't rememebr now) other ancillaries to a specific ancillary ... so there is no way to limit this (hardcoded).

    what are you confused about?

    I think it would be:

    1.- +1 Influence
2.- +1 or 2 movements (i think legionaries had a lot more resistance on a forced march)

@ Lord Raglan, please test the files I sent to you. Do not wait for another version as I first asked you.

@ Hesus and Cze, what happened when you conquered a settlement not roman from the start? Did the general get the ancillary? Also, please check how the SPQR script spawning armies works - both on a settlement not having a legion name after it as well with a settlment having the legio name (think I know the answer but please help testing this - it will confirm another thing besides the legate ancillary)?

i'll give it a go with relation to scripting - course it might take a few go's as carthage is likly to stop a few attempts if i ignore them to much
    lol

i might have a 'fiddle' with starting armies (give myself a decent navy) to make finding out easier

of course i'll keep a backup in case i ever restart the game propably (unlikely)

Sure, I changed starting armies as well during testing. Just do not use other "cheats" during game since that may cause the game not work properly.
