    Default Starting later in history?

I want to start a campaign around the time that cannons came to the European battlefield. Only problem is, even though I change the start date, none of the later technology ever shows up.

I tried right up to 1500ad but couldn't get the later technology.

    Any help?

    Thanks.

The later technology is based on turns from the start date, not a fixed year. Assuming you've unpacked your game, go to:

    *\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign

Find a file called descr_events.txt and open it.

    Look for this:

    Code:
    ; ------------ CORE GAME EVENT --------------
    event	historic	gunpowder_discovered
    date	210 220
    movie	event/gunpowder_invented.bik
Change the numbers after date to a smaller number. It is years since start, so if the start is 1080 it will happen in 1290-1300. If the start is 1500, set it to like 6 8.

I have changed desc_strat start dates before and it successfully changed the date to a later time when I started a new campaign. I am starting over now but this time when I changed the

    Code:
    start_date 1390 winter
    end_date 1650 summer
    timescale 1.00
the date does not any longer change when I start a new campaign. Did I forget there is something else to change or is something else going on?

Set the starting season to summer and try again.

Ah... thanks! Damn you are fast today. Not even sure how it got changed to winter as I don't really care about that.

Hmm... still not working- this is the correct address that should be the mod foldered exe launched?

    Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign

Sorry it was 8:30 in the morning and i hadn't slept all night and posted without a thought. The starting season doesn't matters you can set it winter\summer whatever but generally people prefer summer because winter affects the aging of characters.

Anyways to your question yes the location you posted is the right location, but are you launching the game from the default desktop shortcut or the launcher.exe? If it's launcher then it will overwrite changes with the default descr_strat.txt file.

Damn... ok, that was probably it. Since I have 4 separate installs I had started using launcher instead of the shortcuts.

Apparently I now longer have the default desktop shortcut. Where is the default descr_strat that is being copied over the changes when using the launcher.exe? If I can change that it would be easier. I'm reluctant to run 6.4 installer again just to get shortcut as I've made numerous changes and just finished reinstall and moving most of the modded files back. I lost a couple files I hadn't kept track of well enough in that move... or if there is another way to recreate default shortcut without re-running 6.4 install? I guess I am not sure what is the difference if the shortcut points to the launcher?

Im not sure of your question, but descr_strat is the only place you need to change start date.

Create a .bat file instead and place its shortcut on the desktop if you want, paste this info inside it & save it:
    Code:
    cd ..\..
    start kingdoms.exe @mods\SS6.4\default.cfg
You can create it by creating a .txt document and then renaming its extension to .bat.

Where should that find the kingdoms exe? I assumed to put the path where the SS 6.4 exe resides but that does not work. Doing it with no changes also does not work. "Windows cannot find kingdoms.exe Are you sure you typed the name correctly"

Location of the install I am trying to use.

    Code:
    C:\Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3
    Changing
    Code:
    cd ..\.. start kingdoms.exe @mods\SS6.4\default.cfg
to the 6.3 name doesn't help either.

Just put this file in your main SS folder and then rename the extension to .bat and launch the game from it.

I can't figure out how what you did was different from what I did but ohwell- it is working now and correctly reflects the date change. Thanks

I only changed the name to 6.3 as that's your folder's name "SS6.3".
    Anyways glad to help.
