    Default Capturing ships

A little confused here gang. One of my admirals manged to capture a pirate galleon but I have no idea what happened to it! It didn't join with the rest of the ships in the fleet and it wasn't in any of my ports.

On a similar note... is it possible to capture artillery? I hope so, remember, the American Revolution made great use of captured British cannons... silly British

Oh, and on a random note... what have people seen as the average age before people (agents, rulers, ministers, generals, admirals) start to die?

GB starts with good ol' isaac, he lived to 80 something, so i'm hoping it's scripted for him to live a lot longer than the ~60 year limit in m2tw.

I've had generals live to be over 70 in M2TW. Althought I would say, on average, people only live to be 63 in that game. In this game, George Washignton lived to be 78 for me.

Well it depends... what did you decide to do with it after the battle? I once captured an indiaman (trade ship) and I got the option to keep it or burn it.

Surrounded one pirate ship and he surrendered so I got the option to keep or sink. Also game gave me like $600 reward for the capture.

You either keep it, in which case it goes into your fleet, or sell it, in which case you get money for it. In the results screen after the battle you have to click on the ship's portrait to add it to your fleet, otherwise they will be sold.

I'm confused as to how the game determines what ships you get to capture. One battle I had like 5 surrendered ships, and when it was over it only let me keep/sell two. If anyone knows how this works, let me know.

It takes a while for the 'Sinking' status to activate, so it just reads as 'Surrendered' for quite a while even though the ship is done for. And you obviously can't capture ships that are heading to the seabed.

For example I've had ships disappear from my control list at the bottom, I go over to see whats up and its clearly going down, even though the status just reads 'Steady' or something similar.

It took me a while to get the hang of how things work on this topic. Warning if you play on vh for battles do not board any ships during combat. You will most likely die as 1) the AI gets a bonus in moral etc 2) they can still fire while you ship cannot.

You need to have all the remaining ships surrendered (they are not moving) not routing (they are sailing away). It is a common mistake. Both have the flashing flag but put your cursor over to see which it is. Use grape and chain (whatever) up close and personal like, not roundshot if their hulls are in danger.

Often you get a message that says end or continue, hit continue. Usually the game does that if the AI has either surrendered or is routing. Chase down the routers, you can board them then the game battle is over.

I always get prizes that way.

Once I found this out it was quite easy to build up my trade fleet with Galleons...I am talking to you Spain!

So is that why i didn't capture the 6 surrendered ships? Because one of the Brigs managed to route off the map? Seems a little daft! However if your right, thank you very much for the help.

I'm going to make a post about this on the bug reporting thread, as it seems a little ridiculous losing your hard won ships of the line because a sloop managed to escape

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Had a big battle a few days ago.

7 enemy ships surrendered, all other ships sunk. Not one ship escaped. And yes they all surrendered, i got the option to continue fighting, did that, because one 4th rate was routing, so i send all my ships after, used chain-shot to cripple it and grape-shot to make him surrender. He did surrender, i only could click "end-battle" (got a decisive victory for that) and voila, not ONE enemy ship in the battle report screen after the battle that i could add to the fleet or burn. The whole window was empty, only my ships were visible.

I'm pretty sure it's bugged. It also might have something to do with the difficulty level, because this happened on VH and on my other campaign with M, i managed to capture quite a lot of ships this way.

I have a lot more success with demasting and then battering the enemy into submission than boarding when it comes to capturing ships...

Oh and always hit continue as stated above...

It is possible. I play the battles on v/h but the campaign on h so maybe thats a balance issue between the two modes.

Before I started doing this way, I would never get any ships captured at all. Now I am getting a hell of allot more.

Only way I know is to have your crew board and take over the ship. I guess if you can get them to surrender aswell then you'd get the option.

Default How to change government type?

This begins to be vital for me now. Playing as Hindu nation first, my technologically superior nation (yes, kinda went for it since start, being now more advanced than british : P ) wants to change the gov type, but i can't find where to do it. The satisfaction already dropped to 35% and since im economically doing great, I'm afraid it might get out of control (already 5 regions are freed from taxes for happiness reasons) ....

Do I need to get my ass rolled by multiple inner rebelions to trigger a changing event or can I do it more peacefully? : (

Quite, I'm in pretty much the same situation and would not mind going to Constitutional Monarchy.

I was wondering if it's also possible to change your republic into a monarchy?

Whoever it is that leads the coup, or an old noble.

Anyways, its ridiculous that one cannot peacefully change ones government, completely ahistorical.
