Heh, if I was a game dev, I would actually read these comments and then work on the problems the game has instead of quitting. That'd be actually smart

Are there issues with ETW? Certainly, but I still think it is a fantastic game. Now maybe it because I have a PC that allows me not to worry about if something can run or not so I have had 0 compatibility issues like many have, but common people, it is a PC game. In todays work we have been babied by consoles into thinking that everything works on anything. No company can test its game on every single setup, there are just too many now with too many variations. Compatability issues on lauch are a part of modern PC gaming, get used to it or get back to the silly Xbox.
As for the game itself. I think it was beautifully presented. It looks fantastic, the campaign map actually feels alive now, and the armies... while similar... are correct for the period. Honestly, have you ever looked at anything reguarding warfare durring this period? Armies were nearly carbon copies of each other because those units worked. What was different was the tactics used. If you want a good AI battle stop playing on easy and normal, the AI is useless on all TW games in those modes, set it to VH and it gets far far better imo. Will mods make it better? Of course. Mods make EVERY TW game better. Vanilla to vanilla tho, this is my favorite.
Sorry if this came off as ranting. I just got off a 6 hour ETW session and loved every second of it.![]()
My only problems with the game so far is that they didn't make it easy to be some of the other factions, one crash to desktop bug and it goes slow (but thats because of my processor, so I don't count it).
I'm with this guy
You can't please everyone, and I really don't see the use in every single unit having 100% historically correct uniforms - down to the buttons on their shirts - in the game. I much prefer to have units that I can easily identify and distinguish from one another. What difference would it make? It would be the same game, only it would have to be delayed months or budgetted for. Game development certainly isn't free.
You can't listen to what everyone is saying, but you can try to work out a compromise most will like. To me, a CTD (crash to desktop) bug or unit imbalance is a whole lot more important than making sure every single faction in the game looks exactly like they're supposed to.

You could at least give us the correct color for a major faction, I mean really, I almost expect to see Spanish generals riding unicorns and shooting flowers....
Also the underlying meaning of a compromise is that neither party will get what they want, I really don't think that we need more half-baked additions.
You play videogames with your girlfriend?

Anyway lets hope CA gets there stuff together and make an expansion/patch to a lot of things in mind.
I don't hate this game at all, I like it, but I feel its been rushed
Your decision. I love it, the strategy.
The degree to which Empire is unfinished and rushed is a disgrace. I find myself continuously trying to justify the game with mere thoughts of how awesome the set period is - and utimately how much potential Empire had.
I only hope that CA / Sega realise this and do something drastic; the bugs are one thing, but the lack of and downgrade of content in comparison to past Total War games is something else - clearly outweighing the new interesting and innovative aspects of Empire.
I bought the Special Forces edition and I am glad I did, I only hope that something can be done to repair a now wounded relationship to buyers not as forgiving and optimistic as myself.

Unleash the whirlwind of our wrath. Our guns never tire.
And we have beaten back the foe. Send them running!
well med 2 was pretty unfinished
Yes it is playable but its not FUN playable like MTW2!
Only reason im pissed is because its rushed and i wont b to play it proply untill like 6 months when all the crap is sorted!
And that the game itself is a let down by the ship battles so hyped about and the units being really bland!
The tech tree is nice, but id rather upgrade my units with armorsmith and weaponsmiths :\ in this case a gunsmith ??? Or even just a new building with better equipped units, the units are clones and very boring battle after battle fighting the same units!!
In MTW2 u fought france say and its nice fighting similar units to english but u get bord and decide to fight some vikings or muslims who look TOTALLY different, the small refreshment of such a simple skin change does wonders for the mind, in ETW there is no such refreshment and the mind grows bord VERY fast!
youre all a bunch of moaners... There are people who will only complain about anything.. IT'S A GAME Play it. It's designed for fun. It is fun. Where is the problem? Compatibility with different computers is not CA's fault. There is an infinite number of different PCs, the game wont run well on most..
Also, the lack of variety is stupid. Most nations tryed to copy each others tech anyway, thats why they all look similar.
Naval battles arent rubbish. Dont play them like land battles. That way, the ships will work, it needs a different strategy, thats all.
I agree that pathfinding is still crap.. and that the campaign map seems smaller, but believe me, when the towns fill out, it's nearly as crowded as MTW2. Thats what makes the campaign so good. The tech tree makes the map evolve a lot more. Why are technologys all the same? Because at the time one nation came up with a new tech, it worked, so everyone copied it. That's the 18th C!![]()
You state that the game won't run well on most computers.
Don't you think then, that CA should have warned people, (even those well above the system requirements) about this?
A game released that will only play on a few select computers is NOT a money maker for CA.
Nor does it bid well for their future.
weehamish is just trolling because this game isnt 100% perfect in his eyes.
Ive played the demo but didnt bother purchasing it. I looked at Age of empires 2 > Age of empires 3 and figured the same thing would happen and it did.
100's of medieval units to choose from (age of empires 2/MTW2)
Gun , Cannon , Horse to choose from (age of empires 3/Empires)
Keep total war games pre 1600's
