Default what do you need to sail around the west coast of Africa?

So I got inspired to start a campaign as the Moors after watching Laurence of Arabia (only faction with camels) and with most of the Iberian peninsula mine I decided I may as well secure the rest of Africa. I was trying to avoid going through the mountain pass and just sail around Africa's west coast but it won't let me get much further south than Marrakesh with War Galleys. Anyone know if it's even possible to sail around the west coast of Africa?

for some random reason there isn't a "shallow water channel" along the west african coast, and so arguin doesn't trade on sea with any province. western africa is all "deep water" which can only be crossed with a carrack
so unless you wait till turn 165 better take the mountain pass=P

Good question I had exactly the same problem with getting my merchants to Timbuktoo today, so at least I know the answer
