    Default Carthaginian leadership system

HamilcarBarca from the RTR team has kindly agreed to come and join us to develop this as his work is pretty much done there.

Let's give him a warm welcome.

I think you mean HamilcarBarca (it's a fairly popular name for some reason and there are a few variations due to it's popularity).

Just don't ask him to do anything for Rome! (I hope he does not mind me quoting him).

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

OK. I'll break my own rule and do a description for a Roman unit.

    Something like;

"This is a Roman unit. The Romans were a rude, destructive, vicious society who lacked a material culture of any consequence, and so borrowed that of Greece, Carthage and Etruria to establish one for themselves. The Romans did not believe it was necessary to keep their word, tell the truth, or live a virtuous life. They were committed to endless expansion and the total exploitation of all human and natural resources that they could beg, borrow or steal. In many ways, the Romans were analagous to a virus that ultimately consumed its host.

Eventually the enslaved peoples of Europe, chafing under the domination of the totalitarian bureaucracy of the Roman state, welcomed the invasion of Germanic peoples in 406 BC. The Roman Empire was by this time a police state, completely dominated by a priviledged aristocracy, and maintained by a military apparatus and class system that was hated by the people of Europe. The Roman Empire was quickly undone because of the hatred felt for it by its own subjects, and the Franks, Saxons and Goths were able to establish themselves as a new elite."

    What do you think?

Hi guys! Thanks for the welcome.

I assume this is the thread where I report for duty.

Perhaps someone could give me a bit of a briefing on RS? I have always been an RTR man, so I am not up-to-date with what your team is doing here.

I have some ideas about a Punic Leadership system - but I am not a coder or scripter, so I will need to get constant advice from you guys about what is possible, and what isn't.

Have you got any thoughts about what you want the system to do?

Look forward to making a contribution to your mod.

    H.

Check the Roman Leadership System out. Myself or Squid will be coding it all so you don't need to worry about that - we just rely on you to design it Also look at the greek and barbarian leadership threads where Mullatothrasher and Keravnos are designing some other systems.

Basically the RS team's concept is to create a mod that plays well, looks good and is as historical as possible. We've accepted some historical compromises for the sake of gameplay and also have made some graphically less exciting choices for the sake of history.

    The idea is this:

    Big map
    Big campaign
    Big battles
High quality graphics - all new unit models and skins, retextured battlefields, campaign maps, UI

The original idea 2-3 years ago (DVK's concept) was to represent the might and breadth of Rome's military with unique named and numbered legions each with their own historically accurate recruitment regions, but we've gradually brought more and more balance in by adding more and more detail and variety into the other factions. Now the Greeks, Celts, Nomads, Carthaginians and other factions have got a good representation in terms of units and we're now looking to expand on this with better traits and leadership systems.

For factions previewed so far, look here:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=138853

Your best bet may be to download the beta (beta 8) and give it a whirl. It'a pretty good way of getting the feel of things. The starting date is 218BC and as Carthage you have an army under Hannibal placed in Northern Italy ready to do battle with Rome.

As Tone related, Roma Surrectum was originally just a better representation of the Roman military. Way back when, I had neither the talent, knowledge or Team to be able to do much with all the other factions. And graphically, of course, I was very limited...so RS1.5 was basically a 'fun' mod with some new bells and whistles.

RS2 is a more 'serious mod' that will hopefully still be fun. More serious because we have seriously altered RTW in nearly every aspect. We're adding new buildings, an economic system that Gotthard and others are working on, a brand new map that is essentially being reworked from the ground up..literally, a kick-butt environment that will likely look as good as or maybe in some respects superior to M2TW, and the list goes on.

And welcome, also. We've always had a very good relationship with the RTR folks. The old RTW website was our 'first home'.

I think we should have a 'Barca' trait that gives generals +5 command...

Should that be a 'Barcid' trait - I keep seeing Adrian Goldsworthy use that term. He still refers to Barca as the name though.
