    Default Convert to Empire?

From what I know from this, you guys are not very far along, and still need well over a year or two to completion. So I will just go ahead and ask if there is any way that you could take what you have and convert it to ETW, starting again there? Sorry if this has already been discussed, its just that trirem battles woud be GOD!!!

IT WOULD be good if they instead of modding M2TW started modding ETW for EB2 better...
    but who knows..

I support them in every modification they make and if they want to stay with M2TW thats fine

From what I've seen it will be near impossible to mod ETW back to classical Rome without sacrificing a lot of stuff. Onagers, catapults, siege towers, sword and shield units, javelinsmen, etc.

    thats not true man ...
gunpowder units could be modded to represent archers and such as onagers "maybe"...
we cannot tell by just saying no-no to it...

I understand everybody is excited about the new game, but do you really think it is possible to evaluate it as a modding platform in just a few days? It's not know what it's potential is for modding or whether the combat engine is suited for a melee-oriented battlefield. It will also take a while (say a month or two) for the strengths and weaknesses of the new engine to emerge. Once that's known, CA will start to patch the game, throwing the evaluation of again.

In other words, it's way too early to ask this question.

Also, the team may have progressed further with EB2 than you think.

I won't say how much progress there is, but IMO it's long past the point of abandoning for a new platform.

And as Ludens said, there are going to be patches and for all we know expansions. So it'll be a while before we even know if a total conversion of ETW is at all possible. Should we stop work on EB2 until then?

Even if it weren't for the reasons Ludens and oudysseos pointed out I would disagree with moving EBII to empires.
    Why?

    (1) I don't have it and I won't have it ever as long as it forces me to install/use Steam or another online registration platform.
    (2) I would need a new (high-end) pc. And after all that's a bit difficult with only one fulltime job.

Well once they finally get to Empires it will be great. If unlimited provinces, factions(possibly), and ships isn't enough the city files may be editable once the SDK and unpacker/descriptor program is released. And I'm pretty sure they will know that way before we hack the MTW2 city files.

Empires might be favorable to instant porting. We will know in a few weeks....

Personally i think the M2TW engine is well suited to antiquity anyway, but being unable to stick to one standpoint:
Onagers should be fine since they'd just be like nerfed howitzers
    Archers are already in E:TW
Melee units are already in E:TW
Melee defence is a stat and can be adjusted for armour
etc etc, E:TW would be fine for EBII, but refer back to my first point

    P.S. i really cant see why people dont buy E:TW cos of steam, steam is fine and E:TW is awesome in nearly every conceivable way {@Shadowwalker}

Are there any spear\shield units in empire?

Anyway, you wouldn't have proper trirem battles with ETW's system

    But no Testudo or Phalanx.
A Rome without Testudo Formation is like a Blunt Pencil.

Better yet a Rome without the Lorica segmentata and a time frame which includes the height of its glory, circa 100 AD, is like a Blunt Pencil.

Anyways, doing the mod for ETW would be a waste of time right now imo, in MT2 it will look (and it already looks from what we have seen) amazing, way better than rome. If EB made Rome look so much better, EBII will make medieval 2 look amazing, plus, I tried playing the demo of ETW in the fastest computer I have access to (at work - 512 pci Geeforce, 2gb ram win xp) and i had everything on low and it was lagging bad, its gonna be a while until the majority of us are able to get our hands on a computer sophisticated enough to be able to run ETW at least onmedium settings with no lag.

Theres nothing like coming back to a game you havent played since you had your old computer to a new one and this time running everything on high and running smoothly, i just did this with EB1 on Rome and i fell in love with it again. I have everything on high and the game runs so smooth... its like i have rediscovered it.

yeah tell me about it.. I managed to get it to run on my 1024MB Ram chip and it took 10 minutes to load the battles and the lag was shocking.
When I stopped playing it crashed my whole computer
I'm getting an upgrade hopefully by the end of the week.

I don't like it to be forced to use another open port (besides XP which can be closed to a certain degree) to my pc that I can't close just to play a game.
And I don't want to play MP. So what would me my advantages?

    Sorry for OT.

don't listen to them EB team! They are misleading you with tricksy words unto ruin! No one has even started modding Empire yet, to start at this stage on a new engine would be mad!
The Duke of Dunwich and surrounding fiefdom

For any who are interested by my FF on occurrences in Rhun and beyond; I have begun a new project (not because the old one is finished, just opening more room for ideas) about one of the minor characters, Rankal. It is in the Third Age AAR index and here is the link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=376994

Read the FAQ. The EB on ETW issue is adressed there.

EBII will be done on the M2TW engine. The ETW engine is a new engine (M2TW is the RTW engine) and will require every technical issue to be relearned. Plus, a ton of work has been done for EBII that would be thrown out if it were moved to ETW.

It is a unlikley there will even be an EB for ETW (EBIII).
