    Default How's this for an idea?

    Right. I know this is complex but bear with me.

    The idea is for a sort of MMORPG of RTW. I worked out that if it went from 400 B.C to 400 A.D then it would last for 16 or 17 years at 1 year (in the gane) per week. Obviously a time scale would have to be worked out to show how 365 days could divide into 7 bits.

    You could have a 'random' start where you are born into a random family - anything from a Persian farmer to a Roman senator. Or we could have a choice - what culture, nationality or profession - or a mix of all 3!

    I can see that it wouldn't work much unless it started off with hundreds of people ALREADY on it, if you know what i mean - high membership needed from the start. Some good advertising needed I guess.

    I know that it's more detailed and there are more problems but I can't remember them right now.

    What do you think?

    Have you taken a look at the RPG section? Do you know how hard it is to make a text-based RPG with 20 people? It's going to be impossible to do that with hundreds of people, forget it, I suggest you turn down the scope and focus on one nation, or section of society in one nation.

    ... I mean something with the idea of Runescape or any othedr popular MMORPG like that one Battlefield Europe or something. It has hundreds of players simultaneously online and playing - i tell you it could be done by someone like Jagex. Especially if, like Runescape it's spread across lots of different servers

    if u could make it work id join. but its only an idea at this point and like Seli said, it'd be very hard to do with a game like RTW.
    Of these facts there cannot be any shadow of doubt: for instance, that civil society was renovated in every part by Christian institutions; that in the strength of that renewal the human race was lifted up to better things-nay, that it was brought back from death to life, and to so excellent a life that nothing more perfect had been known before, or will come to be known in the ages that have yet to be. - Pope Leo XIII

    It would have to be a hell of a lot better than Runescape for me, that game lacks depth, it just endless grinding without any fun at all. If you could translate the depth of that world, and make it possible for all jobs to be interesting (very, very difficult) then it might work.
    But then you'd be heading to a proffesion game, and that would be difficult to make.

    Oh please don't spoil any more stuff by putting them into an MMO. It's dreadful.

    Sorry but can you not be so... negative? Other than Legio_Italica (especially selifator) you're being very stern and aggresive with your phrasing. If it doesnt work, then tell me why but don't go all 'you havent got a clue' on me. Whenever I mentioned the idea to anyone they thought it was a great idea. So please, calm down!

    No, please, it's not your fault at all, you just had an idea and you posted it. I have a thing with MMOs, they tend to ruin everything, but then it isn't even the game's fault, it's more the people who play them that make me sick.

    Well, aside from asking people to critique your idea and then getting huffy when they're not agreeing with you ....

    As a hypothetical, I think it's a decent idea. If you try to put it into practice, however ... well, the biggest problem that jumped out at me is that most of it would be pretty boring. I mean, as a farmer, what are you going to do? Try to expand your farm, I guess, make some extra money - and that's okay for some people. Until a war comes around and you get stuck in the army and your farm goes to hell because you're not there. Or you managed to stay out of the army, but your generals and whatnot suck, so you're busy praying that the invaders leave you enough farmland and capital to keep your place going.

    Simply: MMOs are made or broken by the amount of excitement and fun the players have, and for most of them that excitement and fun is generated by fighting/combat. Almost no one would want to do anything that didn't put them in charge of a military force.

    The premise is a good one, but flawed - you're suggesting that people join and play out a game of "Life," when all they really want to do is watch their soldier minions cleave through someone else's soldier minions.
    I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

    You need to try EVE-Online. Your leaders can be great, can be idiots. And there is tons of people tending their farms, with various levels of success.
    Spaceship kind of farms tho...

    @SonOfAlexander.

    Idea is nice and it has it's ups and downs. But it would be much better off if directed at game developers, than the moders or general TWC pop.

    Sorry if you feel like I'm throwing stuff at you, I wasn't trying to. The problem is that you can discuss it, but it's either going to be a hell of a lot more difficult than possible for most people here, or it's going to remain a fantasy. In which case we can all go dreamy-eyes at this point.

    I think he's referring to my post, in which I stated that most people would prefer to be in command of a military force - saying that he wanted to control Cataphracts.

    RE: Sunbird Alikibijad: Never heard of it, I'll have to look into it. Although, it would be rather strange to start playing a "Rome: Total War: MMO and be a farmer, don't you think?

    As for EVE...oh God, You should see the miners buzzing in the asteroid fields, it's worse than farming! And police protects them!

    It's an interesting idea, but like everyone has said, it would be very damn hard to make. And if were trying to mod the game to create that sort of playing environment, I'd have to say that it would be nigh impossible. You'd probably have to create some whole new game for it. But if it was made, then I'm sure it would receive great reception. Its just the problem of making it.

    Donkey...never heard of Eve? It's not the biggest but still, it's succesful in it's own right, since it's remained standing even with WoW. I recommend trying it out, but first read up on the background and the beginners guides. Without those, the trial will be wasted.

    Exactly what Seli says.
    Recently, it burst over 51 thousand people on single server simultaneously!

    @Seli. What is droll.
