    Default New units for Kingdom of Poland

    EDIT: All these units ideas were created by Silesian_Noble, creator of petition to CA as well member of WWmwE mod team. He contacted me, so Im now able to give him proper credit.
    Thanks mate, I wouldnt be able to create this without your ideas.


    Hello everybody.
    I took your advice and tried myself at MTW2 modding, at first I was afraid of model editing but it turned out its done with Milkshape (I had prior experience with this program). This maybe not best units in the world but pretty good for the first time, they are as follows:

    Spieszeni Strzelcy (dismounted shooters):
    My first "unit', thanks to Taiji's advices I managed to get them to work.

    Tarczownicy:
    They took place of old dismounted Polish Nobles (I turned them into swordsman). It my first edited model for MTW2. I need to find way to make them move slower.

    Piast Archers:
    They are pretty much Lithuania archers but better in defence and fight with axe in melee.
    I moved quiver to the back and corrected shield position while carried on back.

    Mazovian Cavalry:
    Should be regional unit recruitable only in Cracow (and maybe Thron). Good early cavalry, thanks to their Lithuanian pavise shield they have pretty good defence also they have two armor upgrades.
    Upgraded models are Ruthenian archers and lithuanian regular swordsman, both from SS, I was allowed to use them, thanks mates .

    Also for Hungary. Cheap light cavalry but they arent too good although they have two armor upgrades:

    Piast Knights:
    Pretty much equivalent of early feudal knights. Had trouble finding texture file both with heather shield and wooden short lance. I used Giltine chosen model from SS

    Dismounted Piast Knights:
    I just followed tutorial how to make dismounted knights.



    Right now Im struggling to make Strzelcy Kresowi (Border Shooters or Archers), unfortunately their equipment is in different texture files and I dont know much about editing UV maps and such (I also dont know what options must be set so texture converter can convert it to TEXTURE file).

    I tried to put these units in campaign but Kmiec Cavalry cause MTW2 to crush and other units doesnt show in recruiting panel.

    In short: I did my best to create new units for poland but I need some help.

    for the recruit panel thing, make sure you added these units to export_descr_buildings, to replace the old units, just make sure to distribute them evenly !

    If you have already done this, do check that file again, perhaps you made it so the units take a very long time to appear.

    After doing this and still nothing, check that you added the units to the correct faction's castle or barrack (some factions use different castles or cities).

    Edit: PS: Cool units ! keep it up ! I wish some of the infantry could at least get mail though, consider more upgrades please !

    I added unit to stables (recruit_pool "Mazovian cavalry" 1 0.25 2 0 requires factions { poland, }) but its icon DOES NOT show up (if units is unavailable its just greyed out).

    As for upgrades: I made these units using list from dead mod centered on Poland. For now they are OK Im planing to make Pocztowi (cav and dismounted) heavy swordsman. Also Dismounted polish nobles are turned into swordsman that throw javelins.
    Tarczownicy dont have mail upgrade since this big shield is really heavy (is there any way to make one unit move slower then others?). Other units dont have more upgrades so Poland still will lack somewhat in infantry department but new cav unit will even things.

    I would be really glad if someone could help me with Border Shooters.

    I have them, the problem is that when you want to save in files DDS format (so you can convert them) there is lot of options to set up and you need to set right ones or DDS converter wont change them into texture. Best if someone could post screanshot with everything set.

    I tried but I cant put textures right. If someone could help me I can send you all stuff that needs to be done (only saber, bow and quiver to put texture on).

    Still any idea why kmiec cavalry crashes my MTW2 when put into recruit pool in desc_building?
    And how can I make Tarczownicy march slower?

    Cool units. I also added to polish roster (for myself) Druzhina and Dismounted Druzhina. I discovered that there were textures ready for them in SS, so it wasn't difficult and it increased fun alot while playing Poland.

    Heres small thing I was working on.
    I got idea while playing Mount & Blade, why does bow dissappear when archers go into melee? Shouldnt it be put on the back then?

    I made this:


    The base idea is the when shield (with secondary) is active bow goes to the back and when shield is passive then axe goes to the belt.
    It works somewhat in battle but not everyone have all equipment. I need to find way to make everyone in unit have it.

    Any ideas?

    Taro for that to happen you have to add the bow on the back to all secondary weapon groups.

    You mean that if I have 4 secondary axes then I nedd 4 bows? or what?

    Im just testing this stuff. If it would work it would bring a lot of realism while being just eyecandy, units that have equipment in battle looks really cool.

    Also what should I put in "comment", I used "shieldpassive/active" and it worked but not everyone had stuff and when I tried to use "secondary/primary active" nothing happened

    Yup that's it exactly. Copy the back bow four times and then merge each axe with a bow. Then edit the comment for the group (and rename if necessary) so it's just the comment for the axe (delete the bow comment).

    Make sure that they are all have the same first line in the comment. So shieldactive0 for example. Also make sure that the third line in the comment for all the shields and weapons is 0.

    Lets get this sorted out a little (as I got little lost):

    I should take inactive bow (the one on back) and group it toghether with axe IN HAND (ie. the one that is used in melee) the assign bow to torso bone. I should make things similiar way with bow as asctive. Right?

    But wouldnt this limit how much axes (same ones in different places) can be put on model?

    Also shield active/passive cannot be used since it makes shield dissapear. What else can be put there?

    Correct. With the inactive bow in the same group as the axe, then it will show up when the axe is being used (which is what you want).

    Shieldactive and shieldpassive does work. I've got a model open at the moment that I know has it's shield working fine (i.e. swaps to the arm and back).     So if I have two bows and four axes and want to attach inactive axe i need to create (copy) two additional bows. In this case (I think) line in comment "primaryactive0" means that nonupgraded model is used and "primaryactive1" means first upgrade and so on, right?

    For everyone interted: Im looking for someone who knows how to properly put textures on models (I know how its done but I just cant make it look good) and with little more advanced model editing (merging different body parts etc.)

    Also after this project will be (more or less) finished it will be released as open source roster so everybody could use it (Im thinking mostly about big mods such as SS)


    BTW: Can I use heavy hussars models?

    EDIT: WOHOOO I finaly managed to get details to work properly and I must say it looks really good. Once you get hang of it its easy to create them so from now on all units I will create will have details (visible inactive weapons etc.).

    I also did some thinking on units and Massive_attack was right after all. This new units need some more upgrades.
    The will be as follows:
    - Strzelcy will get final partial plate upgrade
    - Tarczownicy will have light chainmail upgrade and later (in MTW2 time) will be replaced by Shield Halabardier (not created yet)
    - Piast archers will also have aditional light chainmail upgrade and later will be replaced by Polish Archers (not created yet)
    - Piast Knights will have heavy chainmail upgrade in full medieval lots of heavy cav units will appear such as Polish Knights (vanilla), Pocztowi also dismounted (not created yet), little earlier Piast Nobles (not created yet).

    Oh you have inactive axes too? Ok the basic rule of thumb is that inactive weapons should be grouped (i.e. merged in Milkshape) with the active weapon. So like I described above, the inactive bows should be grouped with the secondary axes. And conversely the inactive axes should be grouped with the primary bows.

    Yo, I worked on some of my previous units to add details to them but I botched things badly and I had to reinstal my MTW2. I was good decision as lots of trash gathered.

    I was slowly putting my units back into game but I run into pretty serious trouble: my dismounted shooters are VERY spread out (and they worked properly before.


    Its not new model fault, I changed ModelDB to use old one and nothing changed. Heres my EDU entry.

    Yeah, its because its hardest to spot them so everything seem all right.

    BTW: Caesar, would you want to give me a hand with new units. You would only need to combine few body parts and apply texture, Ill take care of rest.
    If you dont have time for this I understand, if you know somebody who knows how to do this stuff and can make it look good please put me with contact with that person.

    Sorry but RL issues are keeping me away from home at the moment and I dont know exactly when I'll be back. Even then I wont have that much time for modding and even then, I have several projects going that will need what little attention I can give them.
