How to win in India? (Spoilers)

I am playing as the British. I am leaving Europe alone and have focused on America to begin with...the 13 colonies are now on my side, so I have relaxed a bit in America. I have now shifted my focus to India. I took a fleet, captured the island to the South East (easy enough). Then I made a really bad move and started a war with one of the minor nations on the mainland (the orange guys, forget their name!). I captured one of their regions, but I REALLY underestimated their strength! They are now on the offensive. I will probably lose on the mainland, build up strength on the island, and go back and capture everything! Maybe diplomacy would have been more useful...

So, how are you tackling India?

On a side note, this game is amazing (especially all on Ultra )!!! So pretty to look at. A few minor bugs, but nothing game breaking. Well done CA!

The "orange guys" are probably the Marathas who are a major faction which is probably why your getting your ass handed to you (they're really rich and their units are cheap). Mysore would be the red single region and the green are the Mughals. You should go for the Mughals who are for some region really easy to steam roll.

I assume he means he did the mission that gives you direct rule over them.. since they're your protectorate right off and that doesn't fit with what he said he did.

So when you comlete that mission you get to control them just like any other region you own? ie. The same way you control London.

Exactly. The French have a similar mission where you can have some french colonies like Lousianna to join you.

I'm one region off having the colonies join the Empire. As soon as that's done I'm using their wealth to fashion a HUGE golden statue of my likeness to sit outside the Tower of London.

I'm also going to build a several small, but potent warships. I will take over the trade ports, by force if possible. I wish there was a feature in diplomacy called 'trade' where you could demand/offer things for exchanging trade routes. It's just annoying seeing my ally having all the trade and me sitting here unable to do anything.

Once trade is secure, India will fall to barrages of diplomacy and currency. If that fails SEND IN THE COLONIAL MARINES/line infantry ! Ahem. Yeah. I'll make them amphibious, I'll see if terror tactics will scare the Indian nations into giving me land.

You could buy it or trade for it? I don't know which territory i'd give to france. Even a little place like antigua would be a pain.

I was wondering the same thing. Ive finished off the Cherokee southeast completely, now all is left is New France. However not sure if I want to go to war with France just yet.

You could just take New France an try and then ask for peace. Depends how powerful France is in your campaign. In mine they're 5th lowest in the majour nations.

So i made peace with them but couldn't make peace with their allies - Spain.

9 times out of ten France will agree to a truce after you take New France (Unless you've already annoyed them).

Sometimes you can even break the Spanish-Frence alliance with an attack on New France since Spain don't always go to their aid. If they do though it's far harder to get them to agree to terms.

i never declared war on France.

i just gave them Huron Territory, Trinidad & Tobago, a trivial technology and some gold for Quebec. they foolishly accepted, have been asking for it back ever since.

I know! The sneaky gits, I turned up in India with my fattest, laziest, most slovenly regiment of foot prepared to give them the old "White,Christian, Flag" routine and though and behold all three Indian nations had flags!

I was most peturbed.

Im just in the middle of conquering India now.
At the very begining of the game i started building up troops and a fleet and sent them to the north-east of India and captured Calcutta,from their i advanced west and destroyed the Mughal empire along with the help of the Maratha confederacy but now iv gone to war with them and im pushing right down threw India (about half way).So i think i should have it later tonight or tomorow.
Im not sure about the island at the bottom though,is it worth going to war with the Dutch or should i try and buy the city from them?

I havent attacked them, I let them have it, since they and the Austrians are the only two factions I have an alliance with
