Default Schwarzenegger says about economic crisis: Stop whining

Otherwise, hope you leave enough room for his fist because he is going to RAM IT INTO YOUR STOMACH!

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has called on world leaders to stop whining and complaining about the economic slowdown.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/f...ic-crisis.html

The former actor told a conference in Hannover, Germany, there needed to be a renewed sense of optimism to get people through the financial crisis.

He said: It doesnt make any sense for people to sit back and whine and complain about the economy slowing down. We have to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem

Schwarzenegger also warned CeBIT, the worlds largest technology trade show, against the danger of pursuing protectionist policies.

He said: But this closing of borders, punishing people for doing business outside their country is something we have done [in the past] in America – and it has backfired in a huge way.

The world is a marketplace and we need to protect the consumer. The only way we can do that is if we let the consumer choose products from around the world and not punish the consumer if products come from outside the country.

Schwarzenegger was in Hannover to promote more than 50 Californian technology companies participating in this years show.

He pushed especially for a renewed sense of optimism about green technologies and their potential to lift us out of the economic crisis.

We have an illiterate Hollywood star as the head of our most economically strongest state - what does that say about the direction of our nation?

    We're doomed, period.

thought cali was facing a huge amount of debt problems?

he seems to speak sense to me tbh, although we the 'consumers' do have a right to complain (along with just about everyone else that isnt in the financial or government sectors)

well about the protectionism the bodybuilder is right so is my 12 year old cousin. its not exactly in depth economic wisdom.
green technology acually created a lot of jobs in germany in the last year however i dont see how this would help in the global crisis - dont see the link. whatever. not much content in the article to discuss

optimism is always good expecially in the crisis like this. we pessimistic germans can acually learn from our american optimists here. i am sick of the daily doom messgaes - i even turned off the radio ocasionally coz i am sick of listening to hiobs news daily. we are going to be fine.
in this crisis i think its more the rich guys that lose or lost

I actually think he is on the mark and not a big fan of his. Its been a major negative about Obama too, the world seems to be stuck in the doom and gloom of it and are in their own way making it worse since leaders should be at the forefront of being optimism. Doesnt mean they have to sugar coat the truth or lie but if you keep telling people over and over how horrible things are and forget the positives or what can/is being done to change things. Say what you will about FDR's new deal but atleast his so called fireside chats gave people hope, sense of all in it together and that the future can only get better. From american pov all I see is how bad and horrible it is...I mean the stimulus plan was basically railroaded thru on sheer panic and terror that if it isnt passed now we would sink into an abyss.

If a patient is sick in hospital a doctor doesnt (or shouldnt go) hey guess what you got cancer and you are gonna die! The doctor should be honest but provide reasonable hope to the patient about treatment, solutions etc. So far all our world leaders are doing is telling us we are gonna die

Mandating government expenditures into "green" technology does not "create" jobs. The mandate forces the private sector to reallocate resources in less efficient ways to accommodate tax policies and government mandates. When counting such created jobs it might be usefule to also subtract the jobs that were not created with the transeffer resources -- you will discover the growth is less than it would have been wihout the meddling.

It's real easy to tell people who just lost their job to "stop whining"....when you're a multi-millionaire and your current job is pretty much guaranteed 'till the end of your term.

I do agree with his message, but he should be more understanding of the problems "real people" face.

Yeah but his whining comment was in context to politicians need to focus a bit more on the positives, the avenues of opportunity left open by current crisis. His message wasnt simply "cry more n00b".

and the governor has something to say about the world economy... how?

Oh wait... what he said makes sense, at least, in the closing of borders nonsense.

    I'm torn.

Schwarzenegger is a Liberal with Republican Muscles...

And him being the Governor of California (imagine that!) means he'll be in love w/ Hollywood until he leaves office.

All the politicians whine about the economic crisis, people get worried and start withdrawing stocks and saving money this leads to worse economic crisis. If politicians were positive people would start investing again and we would be home free. This whole thing is inevitable, the economy runs on debt of the people, when people start saving and not spending then the economy loses its revenue. The whole system is ***** and has always been like that, the system revolves around you being in debt.

You're right when you say the problem is that the system runs on debt but you're wrong when you say restoring confidence (in the sense of consumer confidence as accepted today, confidence per se can actually help) can fix things. It can only make the hole deeper.

    i agree with him.

at least on this topic... if the media constantly sit there talking gloom, then people are going to stop spending and look after their own, its simple pop economics... recessions in a media driven world are a self fulfilling, self perpetuating prophecy. (especially when you combine them with dodgy banking and bad loans!)

he's also right to criticise protectionist economic policy.. i live in a country with one of the least regulated import/export markets in the world.. we've been this way for 20 years.. in the early 90s there were job losses as things like car manufacturing and textiles went overseas, but what we were left with was a higher value set of export industries where our products were desired rather than bought for being cheap, and contrary to what protectionist proponents would suggest, a far lower unemployment and far higher skilled work force than we ever did when we were protected by tariffs...

    /opinion.
