    Default BATTLEFIELD 1943!

YAY, directly from the personal blog of one of the creators (Gustav Halling):

    Battlefield 1943 Q&A

I spent my weekend answering questions for the Swedish Battlefield community ,and now I’d like to give all non-Swedish speakers the chance to learn more in-depth what Battlefield 1943 is all about!
    - Is there any support for clan matches?
    - Why a 24-player limit?
    - How does the replenish ammo function work?
These are questions that have been answered by producer Patrick Liu in his blog and by me at BF2.se. Don’t hesitate to ask new questions in the comments!

    Q&A

Will there be any ships in the game?
    BF1943 have 2 hangar ships and LCVP’s.

Is there any support for clan matches?
There will be support for private matches in BF1943.

How many kits will there be in BF1943?
We have narrowed down the number of kits to 3 kits that enables you to do almost everything that you could do in BF1942!

    • Infantry - SMG, Hand grenades, Anti-tank rifle and a lethal Wrench!
    • Rifleman - Semi-automatic Rifle (Garand etc), Rifle Grenade, Hand grenades, knife
    • Scout - Bolt-action Sniper Rifle, Expack (C4), Pistol and sword/knife

Infantry and Scout seem to have some kind of anti-vehicle weapon, what about Rifleman?
Rifleman have his Rifle Grenade rifle that does damage to vehicles!
Is BF1943 a “Internet browser” game?
    No, BF1943 is not a Internet browser game, it’s a download-only game on X360, PS3 & PC.

    Is there any stats system?
Yes, BF1943 will use a stats system very much like the one in Bad Company.

Is there any medic packs or ammo crates on the levels?
    No BF1943 won’t have either.

    • BF1943 uses a regenerating health system
    • BF1943 uses a replenish ammo system

The ammo system is balanced with reload and overheat systems. You still will have clips with 5/8/30 rounds that needs reloading.
Expacks and AT rockets are coming in “bundles”, you can fire the amount of rockets you have pretty fast, then a tweaked timer kicks in to reload the bundle!
All this together will give you an gaming experience where you don’t need to run around looking for crates and can focus on what’s fun, pwning enemies! =)

How does the Air Raid work?
The Air strike can be called in by any one person and it’s controlled by that person!

How does the recoil and deviation system work?
BF1943 uses my new weapon design that instead of randomizing bullets in a big circle as in many other games, your bullets will instead “follow” after each other in a pattern.
This doesn’t mean that it’s easier to use the weapons but they will be easier to learn, control and master!

    Is there any unlocks?
We wanted to give all players the same experience from start and that’s why we will not use unlocks but give you all the weapons and gadgets from the start!
But our stats system will give you things to hunt for instead!

    Why does BF1943 have a 24 players?
64 players is awesome but will all good there is some hurting also. The 24 player limit is not about us being lazy, but the experience of a massive battlefield is necessary not bound to the amount of players!
We have also optimized the layout and size of the maps to compensate for the 24 player limit.

And as many of you remember most clan wars where player with 8vs8 or 12vs12 and what we have seen many of the 64-player servers are mostly half-full or having lack of performance.

Beside these design decisions there are technical limitations. There are very restricted bandwidth limits on the consoles and we are networking a lot more than 24 players:
    - 24 players are networked
    - Almost as many physics driven vehicles with movable and destroyable parts
    - All destruction, if a wall is being destroyed on one client we need to update it on all the others, otherwise we could end up with players hiding behind non-existent walls.

If we removed all destruction and all our vehicles we could have more players. But no other game gives you the wide gaming experience we have!

I cant see any minimap on the preview videos, is it removed?
BF1943 will have a minimap at release, it just haven’t been added yet =)
The videos you see are recorded from a pre-alpha build and is not always the final version!

Has anything been done about base raping for collecting stats?
Yes, BF1943 uses an anti-base-rape system that makes it impossible to get any stats inside enemy bases!

    Battlefield 1943 in-depth

    Good morning
, I’m now back in the office here at DICE and we have a sunny day outside the office!
My producer Patrick Liu have also been busy and have gone more into some parts of the game on his blog that I want to communicate to all English speaking fans! I will go into more into our Replenish ammunition system and how our three classes works in the game!

    Replenish ammunition

Many people have been wondering how our “unlimited ammunition” works. Unlimited ammunition is really an unfortunate word, replenish explains much better what we want to do!
Imagine yourself running around trying to find a crate to fill up your ammo, but instead the crate comes to you!

    Bundles

The AT rifle and Rifle grenades have about 2-3 shots in each “bundle”. You can fire one rocket, reload and then fire another rocket pretty fast. But when your “bundle” is emptied a timer starts ticking, this is the replenish time. The time is being carefully monitored and tweaked under our playtests!
Imagine yourself that under this time you would otherwise be forced to run 100m to the nearest ammunition crate, and then run 100m back again to be able to fire your next round. Running back and forward like that is no fun!
With replenish you wont get any grenade or AT spam. And even if the snipers have “unlimited” ammunition they have been proven to be found pretty fast under our playtests so there is no exploit there either!
The system have been proven to work great under our playtests and we have people from hardcore ace pilots to dedicated snipers. So once again you will have to trust us with this one. We wanted to test something new and it’s the same principal with the regenerating health-system we have. Which have been proven to work great in other games also.
All the changes we have made is to remove all the obstacles that would have stopped you from firing at your enemy!

    Classes

As you have seen we have “only” three classes. We choose this because we wanted to make three very distinct classes, and it’s also a lot easier to balance three classes than for example seven classes. Many of course misses the “medic” class but with regenerating health we couldn’t find any good area for this class and the regenerating health, in this game, overrules the medic class in this case.
Infantry and Rifleman have grenades, Scout have expack. All classes have some kind of melee weapon. Infantry have a wrench, Rifleman a bayonet and the Japanese Scout have a katana sword!

    Infantry:
Close combat soldier, your run-and-gun type. Suites beginners very well that want to spray with the Thompson SMG. But he is also the only support-class with his repairing wrench and the most effective anti-vehicle soldier with his AT rifle!

    Rifleman:
Best in the middle range distance. Have a semi-auto (M1 Garand) and iron sight. The class for the more skilled player that wants to have the best control of his shots. Also have Rifle grenades against soldiers and any walls that may be in the way!

    Scout:
The sniper class. For all the lone wolves Equipped with a pistol for those close combat situations and expacks to blow up.. yeah, anything!
Theoretically all classes can take out a tank sooner or later but I wouldn’t go against a tank as Rifleman, but with expacks you also need to get pretty close to do any damage…

There have been comments about PC vs. X360, PS3. But I can only say that I cant comment on any of those things at the time being.
I can only explain and comment on the game design and gameplay experience in Battlefield 1943.

It's also very different from previous battlefield games and imo way too casual, sacrificing many of the things that made the battlefield games that great for the sake of appealing to very casual players. This is imo the wrong step and I would have rather had BF1942 with a new graphic's engine instead of that.

Sigh....... Why don't they go back to 1942 and update it? 42 was and is an epic game. All it needs is the graphics updating and more realism ala Forgotten Hope. I would love it if they made an MMO out of it. 100 vs 100 anyone?

aye...the last good game I have played with the BF series was the original '42, the mod Forgotten Hope and Desert Combat.

Anything else after was a downward slope from quality gameplay to trying to milk the cow more with more flash and less substance.

This is what worries me. There's a very fine line between cutting down on complexity and making a game too casual.

Yeah, I was hoping for a new version of 1942. I played that lots, but this will just suck

erm. max 24 or 32 online players (if i recall correctly) and it looks too much like cod style + boats/cars/planes.

May try it, but they are going in the wrong direction.

edit: yup, ONLY 24 players. How is THAT good, compared to the awsome 64 player battles in battlefield 2 and etc?

edit 2: in the trailer there's a corsair destroying a ac20 if i'm not mistaken... tk anyone? xD

    I'm looking forward to this.
Bad Company had some of the best explosions in any game and looks like they will carry over the same explosions here.
Only thing I wonder is how planes will work on for example the Wake Island map.
Frostbyte allows terrain to get deformed and I remember on Bad company that driving over a heavily bombed out area became a really rough ride with you bouncing all over the place.
The planes usually need flat ground to take off.
If you bomb the hell out of the runway then you should be able to make the planes unable to take off.

I just hope they can preserve the gameplay from Bad Company, it was probably one of the funniest games online.

I'll play it(if my comp is running and can run it) and see if those changes make big difference to me.

BF 1943 watered down as it is should still be above most other FPS games out there at least to me.
Its a step in the right direction with the BF franchise, moving closer to a rehaul of the 42' game so I will support it and hope I am right.
Sure these changes aren't needed for an already great product but let me play the game 1st before I start blasting EA on what a huge mistake they made.

    Besides destructable enviroment sounds fun.
