Default Who should Republicans groom for 2016...

Well its a while away, but may as well start now.

What young leader should be groomed for that time? Any rising stars?

We need one that can be groomed for 2016, but is ready for 2012 if Obama looks weak.

Jindal I guess. I don't really like him but I don't think most Americans like Romney and you can't just keep throwing that guy out in front.

Petraeus-- Dictator for life. He's got the popularity of the plebs and the loyalty of the legions. The Senate should be afraid; the Optimates and the Populares combined.

    Hahaha

In seriousness I'd support him for president, but doubt he'll run.

Whoever picked should fall under this profile:

Combat Veteran of Iraq or Afghanistan
    Moderate politically
    No major skeletons in closet
Human (as in can connect with people and people can connect with him)
    Charismatic

I support him as well. I don't think he'll run either though. But I think he'd have a strong package to dole out to Republican voters. Nothing could help people forget the screws ups of the Bush administration over the Iraq like the General that fixed it all... or most of it. In any event, I always thought it was so neat how not only is Petraeus a bad ass general, but has a bad ass sounding name that sounds like it belongs in an ancient scroll about some battle.

I predict it will be Romney.

He'd be great as a candidate and president.

And his name is awesome, and so does its translation (which means "Rock")

Mikelus: I doubt it. I think Romney will run in 2012 and probably lose and his name will be dead.

I suspect that you're right. He'll get the nomination for the same reason that Bob Dole did in 1996 ... it will get rid of the guy whose "turn" it is to run.

I like Mike, though Petraeus would be a truly awesome candidate.

You can't forget many conservative people tend to be religious... and some are, shall we say, intolerant of other religions. Romney is a smart guy, my unlce enjoyed him as the governor of Massachusetts, but he is mormon, and there are a lot of stupid people out there that won't vote for him b/c of it. All the presidents have been some sort of protestant, only JFK was Catholic...

I can't take a man seriously named Mit. It's just not in the cards for me. I want someone that's moderate, I wish to high heaven one day someone that is a freaking moderate and very central in their policies would get some damn influence. I'm sick of this one side or the other. Jindal has too many far right beliefs, so I don't particularly like that either.

I think he is too shrewd to run in 2012.

McCain was 72 wasn't it? And I don't think his age dissuaded many folks from voting for him at all ...despite my best attempts here in the pit to do so.

All Romney has though is the fact he looks like Reagan...

I mean that is the only reason I can think of for voting for him.

That is what I'm talking about finding.

We got plenty of Republican Afghan or Iraq Vets that we should choose from (Republicans have always been giving the image of pro-military a Vet helps that).

Although if the US does not come out of this recession by the end of Obama's 1st time, Romney's education in business might be the factor that nominates hime. You never know.

I'll still think of Romney as the guy with a 10-speed bike at my door asking me if I am interested in converting.
