    Default this sucks so much!!!

il start from the beginning and youll understand why it sucked so much:

so im playing as epirus, on my way to wipe out the makedonians. i am allied with koinon hellenon and sent a diplomat to bribe a makedonian army. the entire army joined me, but only consisted of 2 units of infantry, a skirmisher unit, and an archer unit. next to this army was a makedonian city with an 11 unit garrison. i decided, "hey, im not doing anything else with them, why not give it a shot?" so i laid seige to the town, and, as is expected, the enemy sallied forth. now heres where it gets interesting:

I positioned my men with infantry in front, skirmishers extremely close behind, and archers just behind skirmishers, with skirmish ability off. after several retreats back up the hill, i had the entire 11 units routing to the city center. if a few hadnt gotten there, i probably would've saved and been fine. now, just as their only non-routing unit rides out to be destroyed by my forces and secure my victory, EB just closes. for no reason, no alert or message or anything, it just went to the desktop as if i had just started up my computer.

now, is there any fix for this? i tried the sprites fix, which didnt work obviously. luckily, i saved right before the battle. but it will still take a lot of luck to get it right a second time.

Crashes, like the one you just experienced, are a reoccurring problem in Europa Barbarorum. It annoys my Lord as well, but my Lord is a bit more lucky than you are. When my Lord's game crashes it crashes inbetween turns after he has played a long time. My Lord saves before ending every turn so no harm is done.

    Even vanilla had post-battle crashes.
If the problem repeats itself, then it is a bug.

    Auto save??

I've gotten a few of those in campaign. Saving a lot helps (just in case the autosave gets corrupted the the ctd repeats from it).

When it happens to me I restart from my last save and just auto_win if the battle was a big one. So far as I can recall, every time I've done so the cheat results in a worse victory with more casualties than I'd had when I played the battle.

John-117: As MAA said, a singular CTD means almost nothing - it could be a bug if it's repeated, but it could also have been a Rome problem.

Zimfan: Autoresolving will almost always produce more casualties than fighting out a battle yourself, and (in my experience), it seems that auto_win produces even more casualties than standard autoresolving.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

I find saving, exiting EB, then restarting and loading up your game after three hours playing has a huge effect in cutting down CTDs.

Yep, I do it mostly to avoid having to replay the battle, and partly because when I do replay battles after a CTD, I tend to have far fewer losses the second time around and then I feel guilty.

I don't mind the heavy losses. The CTDs are rare enough that it just makes the game a little more challenging.

wow, i cant believe i actually forgot about auto_win.....oh well...

anyway, this isnt the first time this has happened, plus its happened on another computer several times. i always save before a battle, unless its super small scale. i tried redoing the battle like 3 times, and failed each time. eventually i just bribed anoter army and sailed them over, and i starved them out.
