It is completely untrue that sharks are immune to all viruses and disease.

I did read about this in magazine while ago so after reading your post I decided to investigate.

Some of the early studies did point that sharks have high resistance to cancer but it has been proven that they do develop tumors.

Gary K. Ostrander and his colleagues cataloged findings of solid tumors in sharks in a review article, published in the Dec. 1, 2004, issue of Cancer Research

Research by Dr. Robert Langer of M.I.T. has revealed a promising anti-tumor agent obtainable in quantity from shark cartilage. Shark cartilage contains a compound antagonistic to the effects of angiogenin, called 'angiogenin inhibitor' - which inhibits the formation of new blood vessels so that the proto-tumor starves or 'chokes' in its own waste products.

Seriously though, are sharks really immune to all diseases and why? This is very interesting, and nature never ceases to amaze me.

don't you think that scientists are trying that? science is not something that gives you an immidiate result.

somehow i dont think salt water is the best conductive media for a staphlococcus bacteria link between humans and sharks.

I 'spose it's possible the shark could eat a person with a cold and then get a tummy ache. But that person should have been home in bed anyway.

Contrary to popular belief, sharks are not immune to diseases or cancer.
Ovservations leading to this conclusion are anecdotal.

Same reason we don't die when we ingest penicillin. We're different from bacteria and sharks.

And yes, that's quite a stretch.
