Do AIs ever follow victory conditions?

Do AIs ever follow presetted factions' victory conditions? And does anyone have experience about AIs gain victory by themselves through intended follow victory condition?

I don't know about you, but it seems that the AI always expands (in my case) towards it's goal.
Yes, even in Vanilla

I've gotten a couple of the "defeat imminent" messages in vanilla, in the short campaign. Never seen them win through victory conditions, and I have no clue if they follow the victory conditions closely.
