Thread: The Greek Wars

Another thing, but this is optional...I looked the script, the year 360 has only 6 turns, and every year has 6 summer turns followed by 6 winter turns...it would be fine to make 3winter (jan, feb, march) +6summer (apr, may, jun, jul, aug, sept) +3winter (oct, nov, dec). So, you always have 6 winter followed by 6 summer, but the start of the year changes...

That's an interesting idea, but without any way to notate months it could get confusing. You'd start in winter 359BC, for example, then go through summer 359BC and then winter 359BC again.

Several people have noticed a glitch whereby characters age one year per turn in the beginning of the game. I noticed that it happens until the first turn of the year (when they are supposed to age). I fixed that by starting the game in the last winter month of 360BC, so the first turn after that is summer and the problem doesn't arise.

KLA's skins never appealed to me that much. I don't mind ahistorical units, but his are a bit too colorful for me.

    I appreciate the suggestion, though.

I've given the greek outro movie to all factions, and I've changed the victory/defeat texts to correspond with our factions. These changes will be included in the next version.

Kleomenis, at what date did you finish conquering the map? Also, to anyone having played the game for many years, have there been babies? Have they significantly affected the number of generals (by taking up adoption slots)? A son born at the start of the game should come of age almost 200 turns later, so I'm thinking of giving massive infertility traits to all characters, to avoid the family tree being cluttered by useless children.

Ok so I downloaded the mod. I unziped it and its all in my RTW folder, along with Alexander//lotr-tw mod.

So I looked around after unziping and I got nothing. I can't seem to launch it and all that..

Btw how do you check what version you have?? like 1.5?

    @Sudukchung:
You can check which version you have if you click "options" in RTW. It should appear in the top right corner.
If you have unzipped it correctly, there should be a folder named "TGW" in your RTW folder, and an executable named "TGW.bat". That's the file you click on to launch the mod. If they are not there, there might have been a problem with your unzipping process.

@Swagger: What units would you suggest? Catapults weren't really prominent in the 350s. You can train triremes and quinquiremes. I'll see about adding a few at the start for some factions. More cities would make it too crowded, and that's not the effect we're going for.

    Patch ready! TGW 0.95

    http://files.filefront.com/TGW+patch.../fileinfo.html

It's only 154kb big. Extract it in your RTW folder, in the same manner as the original mod.

Make sure to delete the file "tgw\data\world\maps\base\map.rwn" before you launch the mod for the first time. I'm not sure if it's necessary, but it may be.

    Version history:

    TGW 0.95

    - Fixed bug in script that made characters age one year per turn for the first few turns.
    - Fixed bug in script that caused it to terminate ten years too early.
    - Fixed bug that would cause a CTD when a Megaran settlement was assaulted.
    - Fixed some typos in campaign descriptions.
    - Fixed Olympian wonder (it did not appear in the game)
    - Changed unit stats – generals’ bodyguards have been particularly nerfed, and they are set to act as missile cavalry, out of harm’s way.
    - Added local place names as surnames for characters. Changed name structure, as a result.
    - Added some missing unit descriptions.
    - Added victory and defeat texts, and gave the greek outro to all factions.
    - Changed faction AI behaviours.
    - Changed starting faction relations.
    - Changed some building costs.
    - Changed recruitment times.
    - Changed starting armies and funds.

    TGW 0.9

Ah... the AI is still using them like missiles...

I think we need to make them like the generals in SPQR

more variety of units, like phalax units

maybe use some macedonian units with new names & skins

i think just a few more cities (10 +-) would be just nice

We went for a degree of Historical Accuracy. Phalanx units werent very widespread at this time in S. Greece. So we decided against their inclusion.

Athens has a phalanx unit (peltasts) because it had been moving towards such tactics at that time. Unfortunately I have no knowledge of other southern Greek factions doing the same. Would you prefer the extra cities as an extension of the map or within the same map, i.e. with a higher city density?

There may be some skin changes before v1.0, but I have currently no time to do anything drastic, I'm afraid.

currently there's around 40 regions, and there's like 7 factions (?), i there's not enough regions for the number of factions

Have you tried getting permission to use the Hegemonia units? They'd be perfect...

There are also no sprites, because I had no way of generating them.
RTW itself has a sprite generator you can use, though I have no idea of the particulars.
